Two of the most inconsistent sides of recent weeks meet at The Hawthorns, with Liverpool now chasing fourth to save them from the Europa League. Lee Phelps shares his free soccer pick.

West Bromwich Albion and Liverpool are two of the hardest teams to predict at the moment, but I will give it a try because that’s what I’m here for! I was very surprised by West Brom winning at Palace and even more shocked by Liverpool losing to Aston Villa in the FA Cup semi-final.

Soccer odds makers have made Liverpool the favorite at +100,  West Brom at +300 and the draw set at +260 for this fixture. So which side should we back?

West Brom
After failing to score in their first nine Premier League meetings with Liverpool, West Brom have scored in seven of their last eight, add to that the fact that Tony Pulis has never lost a home game against Liverpool, winning thee and drawing three.

Their home scoring record is pretty good too having scored in each of their last five home games, on top of that the Hawthorns has seen more early goals than any other ground. 11 have been scored in the opening 15 minutes of matches.

Their home stadium has also been a particularly happy hunting ground for their leading scorer Saido Berahino, who has hit 15 of his 18 in front of the Baggies’ fans. I wouldn’t be surprised if he has his eye on a move away this summer and Liverpool would be a perfect fit

Liverpool
One reason Berahino would fit in at Liverpool is their plan to recruit English players. It’s a little known fact that if only goals from English players counted, the Merseysiders would be top of the table with 65 points.

Their gamble on Mario Balotelli hasn’t paid off with just one Premier League goal in 14 appearances. He has had mixed fortunes at the Hawthorns too, scoring two and getting a red card in his Manchester City days.

Surely now Brendan Rodgers will be looking to next season as they put as much pressure on Manchester City in fourth as they can. The seven point gap is surely too much to overhaul to get a Champions League qualifying place.

Soccer Picks
I would probably lean towards Liverpool if I was forced to choose a result for my soccer pick, but the teams are so inconsistent I’m not going to risk it. I do think we’ll see an open game and if I’m right about Berahino eyeing up a move away, then he will be keen to score and up his game.

Free Soccer Pick: Saido Berahino to score 3.4 (12/5)
