Fulham v Manchester United - Premier League - Saturday February 2nd 2013
These two sides met in the FA Cup Fourth Round at Old Trafford last Saturday and it was Manchester United who ran out 4-1 winners to book themselves a place in the Fifth Round.
Although Manchester United Old Boy, Dimitar Berbatov was facing his old side for the first time since leaving the club last August, the Bulgarian was able to do little to keep his side in the game and when Giggs converted from the penalty spot within the opening three minutes, there was only ever one team going to win that match.
This Saturday's Premier League meeting between the sides could be different. Neither team have made any significant signings in the transfer window so both managers will have largely the same squads to choose from, however with Berbatov looking likely to be out with an injury sustained against West Ham on Wednesday night, Fulham will be looking to the likes of Petric and Rodallega to get the goals for them.
With Manchester United now seven points clear at the top of the Premier League and 1/5 favourites to reclaim the crown from Manchester City, it comes as no surprise to see the Red Devils coming into this match as the 4/7 favourites with the bookies.
For me though, the real value in this match could be in backing either a Fulham win or the draw.
Manchester United have made a habit of going behind in games this season only to bounce back and take the three points. Eventually, this isn't going to quite work out for them and on a tight pitch, on a wet, windy night in West London, United may just struggle a little to take maximum points.
Fulham are traditionally a far stronger team at home than they are away. Indeed they would no longer be in the Premier League if they had to rely on their abysmal away record. For that reason, I don't think we need to place too much significance on last week's result and I expect this match to be far tighter, with fewer chances for both sides. If Fulham can get their noses in front and get 10 men behind the ball, this could well be a match United struggle to win and I am really tempted by either 3/1 available on the draw or 5/1 for a Fulham win. If I had to stick my neck out and go for one, I'd take a Fulham win by a single goal.
In terms of goal scorers, were looking at both Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney as the big favourites to hit the back of the net first. If you fancy United to get the win then either 3/1betting odds on a Van Persie first strike or 9/2 on Rooney could both offer great value.
For Fulham, Rodallega and Petric can both be backed at 11/1. I quite like the value on Bryan Ruiz to open the scoring at 13/1.
In terms of the number of goals scored, following last weekend's five goal total, im expecting a far tighter game this time around and certainly don't see any more than 2 or 3 goals in the game. This could even be a match which is settled by just one goal to either side, so the 15/4 available on 0-1 goals would be my football tip for this match.
