Two teams who badly need a win face each other at Selhurst Park on Sunday. Lee Phelps has looked at the betting to find the best odds and thinks his free pick is a statistical sure thing.

Crystal Palace and Liverpool have shared some great games in the past, once upon a time the great late ‘80s side including John Barnes, Peter Beardsley, John Aldridge and so on beat Palace 9-0, Palace then beat the Reds in the FA Cup semi-final the April after and many believe started the downturn in Liverpool’s fortunes. More recently of course they put a massive dent in Liverpool's Premier League title aspirations last season coming back from three nil down to draw 3-3 in what has been labelled Cryst-anbul in memory of Liverpool's comeback against AC Milan to win the Champions League.

These are two teams which are struggling to form in the Premier League and both will see enough in the opposition to want to go for all three points.

Crystal Palace
Neil Warnock was bemoaning the lack of good luck for his side before the international break, I am not so sure it's luck as much as quality that they're missing. One huge bonus for them this weekend is the return of Mile Jedinak, who before his red card was, statistically at least, the best player in the Premier League.

It's no surprise that performances have dipped without captain in the starting line-up. The problem last season was a lack of goals and whilst they are scoring more this season, they’ve already got almost half of the goals they managed in total on 2013/14, they are also conceding more than last term, with 20 goals conceded in 11 matches, they conceded 48 in 38 across the entire season last time.

Warnock has been talking about going back to basics defensively, he obviously recognises the need to stop the goals going in if they aren't scoring. Soccer odds here simply lead me to think Palace won't go gung-ho at Liverpool.

Liverpool
The only time they have scored more than one goal at home this season was in the 2-0 win over Leicester, while Liverpool have scored three goals on two occasions away from home once in their best performance at Tottenham and once again when they barely deserved a win versus QPR.

Injuries following international breaks have been a major problem for Brendan Rodgers this season Sturridge has never been close to fit since picking up a problem with England, perhaps even more worrying is Jordan Henderson's match fitness.

Soccer picks
Liverpool have showed in brief glimpses that they should be too good for this Crystal Palace team, but something happens to the Eagles when the Reds come to town. Rodgers’ team also has a game in midweek with a must win trip to Ludogorets and whatever players and coaches say they will have one eye on that game even if it is a subconscious one.

If forced to do my soccer pick of the win markets I would take Crystal Palace and the draw, but wouldn't be surprised with any of the three results. My favourite bet is based on goals. Crystal Palace are yet to score a first half goal this season at home, while six of the eight away goals Liverpool have netted have come in the second half as well.

The second half to be the highest scoring is 5/4 which looks a fair price, it's also the same price for over 1.5 goals after half time but the bet I like most is both teams to score in the second 45 minutes at 11/4.
