Fulham will be desperate to beat Tottenham in order to climb out of the relegation quagmire but odds makers don’t expect them to win. Can they handle they punch above their weight at White Hart Lane?

Fulham’s Doldrums
Fulham are ankle-deep in the relegation zone, sat in 17th place on 30 points following a 9-3-22 mark in 34 laps around the Premier League. Clearly, they’ve not made the grade so far but a win over Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend could potentially see them leapfrog over Norwich (two points ahead) and into safety. A notion underscored by Fulham’s victory over Norwich City last weekend and that is gaining traction given Norwich’s upcoming date with Liverpool – only the odds on favourites to win the title now.

Fulham are flush off a 1-0 victory over Norwich at the Cottage, a victory that extended their winning streak to two in a row following their surprising 2-1 win over Aston Villa. It also marked their second win in their last three home fixtures.

Fulham can’t afford to lose any matches if they hope to ensure Premier League survival and over the last fortnight this burden of expectation has been handled admirably. Question is can they handle the burden of expectation at White Hart Lane?

If the soccer odds were any indication, the answer would be a resounding No! Odds makers send the Cottagers into White Hart Lane as the quintessential underdogs listed at +550 to win outright. On the back of those odds is Fulham’s debilitating defence that has allowed a whopping 40 goals against on the side’s travels. Although offense has hardly made any attempt to relieve the pressure contributing a paltry 14 goals on the road.

Unquestionably, Fulham are correctly tipped at the disadvantage ahead of this clash and given their doldrums on the road their odds are appropriately large even. A win at White Hart Lane would be one of the biggest upsets of their mega disappointing season.

Tottenham Hotspur Beatable Favourites
Tottenham Hotspur are fighting for a top six finish with Man U, nipping at their heels just three points adrift. An ambition dealt a setback last weekend when they settled on a draw against West Bromwich Albion. Then again, things could have been worse. Had the Spurs not deposited a sensational second half, in which they scored two unanswered goals to draw level 3-3, they would have lost the match and allowed Man U to close the gap to two points.

As things currently stand, Tottenham are sixth in the table on the back of an 18-6-10 record on the season and 60 points. A large part of their solid run this season is balanced form: form is equal at home and on the road at 9-3-5 to date. What’s more, scoring is dead even at 24 goals and defence is almost equal with 22 goals conceded at home and 26 conceded on the road.

Predictably, the Spurs are listed as the hot favourites at -200 to win outright. A market stance that is encouraged along by a rather favourable record against struggling teams this season as well as recent good form at White Hart Lane that includes six wins in their last eight home games, four of which were clean sheets against Stoke City, Crystal Palace, Everton and Cardiff City. Their last two matches were impressive wins 3-2 over Southampton and 5-1 over Sunderland.

Soccer Betting Verdict
On the face of it, this clash is a home banker. Tottenham Hotspur should be able to handle Fulham’s weak offense and at the same time find the many gaping holes in their defence. As such, the Spurs are the smart soccer pick at -200 to win outright. A complimentary soccer pick would be to take the the Over 2.5 at -188 or even the Over 3.5 at +125. Fulham are desperate to remain in England’s top flight and that makes them a dangerous underdog. But it’s one thing to beat Aston Villa and Norwich – two sides that have been wholly off colour this season. It’s another to beat a side that has been solid against the bulk of the field, with the exception being against the top set.
