English top flight is finally back. Headed into its first week of action in earnest with intriguing matchups and attractive opening odds on offer, soccer enthusiasts have many angles of profit to consider. Here’s a look at the complete board with our choice value picks served up.

Premier League is back!

With Premier League betting set to kick-off at the weekend, much of the betting focus centres on the Manchesters and Chelsea, the top three favourites to win the title. Some of the pressing questions: Will Man U rise from the ashes of 2013? Will Man City defend their title? Or, will Chelsea deliver as current top favourites? Let’s look at match day 1 fixtures for this fancied triplet along with a rundown of the remaining fixtures all while serving up our choice soccer picks.

Man U -300 vs. Swansea City +800

Soccer Betting Preview: Man United look to bounce back after a disappointing 2013-2014 season under new head coach Louis van Gaal. They open as the whopping -300 favourites against Swansea City at the Old Trafford, the very same side they defeated in last season’s opener 4-1 at Liberty Stadium, which, at the time, started David Moyes’ tenure as the “chosen one” on a deceiving note. The honeymoon phase though reached its sell-by-date quickly thereafter as Man U began their steady descent from the league’s zenith, where they sat lotus as champions at the end of the 2012-2013 season, down to mid-table obscurity, even flirting with the bottom-half for a stretch before finally settling in seventh place behind a 19-7-12 mark.

Preseason action bodes well. Man U opened preparations with a 7-0 win over LA Galaxy and then went on to compete in the International Champions Cup, which they won convincingly by beating stiff opposition in Roma (3-2), Internazionale (penalties), Real Madrid and Liverpool (both 3-1 scores). Most recently, they beat Valencia 2-1 in club friendly action.  Preseason success doesn’t have to transcend the regular season necessarily, but it can’t be dismissed entirely even. There are many takeaways for Man U fans, all of which point to a positive start on the season.

Soccer Betting Verdict: A home win for the Red Devils is absolutely the expected outcome, hence, the convincing -300 soccer odds. That rather subjective outlook is tempered by more objective odds in periphery markets, which is where we feel some of the value soccer picks are really. Halftime-fulltime betting odds serve up many options, two of which include Man U to win both halves at -120 or a draw-Man U win at +275. Totals favour the Over 2.5 at -138 while correct score betting serve up loads of options, of which we rather fancy 3-0 or 3-1 at +800 and +1200, respectively.

Newcastle United +400 vs. Man City -163

Soccer Betting Preview: If  are to begin their title defence campaign successfully, they’re going to need to find form quickly. Preseason was a mixed bag of results, none of which augurs well for their upcoming season that gets off to a rather arduous start with dates at Newcastle followed by Liverpool, Stoke City, Arsenal and Chelsea in the first five weeks. Indeed, Man City were found wanting in a 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in their Community Shield clash this weekend. Man City backers have to hope the Citizens find their title-winning form at St. James Park, otherwise their fancied -163 odds will prove a gross exaggeration by bookies. By the same token, Newcastle fans must be quietly optimistic. Alan Pardew is no mug; he’ll have paid close attention to Man City’s defeat to Arsenal, take from it the necessary tactic as he prepare his lads to emulate the result at St. James Park.

Soccer Betting Verdict: The betting instinct is to back Man City at -163 because of their inherent quality and depth. But even the mighty struggle from time to time, particularly if form is an issue. As such, Newcastle United do seem to have an opportunity to send seismic shockwaves through soccer betting markets. It remains to be seen whether they’ll pull off the feat, but it does seem silly to waste their rather disingenuous +400 odds (they really shouldn’t be so disadvantaged) without so much as a tickle on your soccer picks.

Burnley +700 vs. Chelsea -275

Soccer Betting Preview: Of all the opening Premier League fixtures, this one appears to be the most straightforward of the lot. Hence, the rather one-sided soccer betting odds that lean conspicuously towards the travelling Blues. One glance at the collection of players Jose Mourinho has managed to acquire in the summer transfer window is enough to suggest a winning start at the expense of a “below strength” Burnley in comparison is an almost certainty.

Soccer Betting Verdict: Let’s all agree Chelsea to win outright at -275 is the correct soccer pick in outright win markets. So that leaves us with a search for value picks, which we feel is best served in halftime-fulltime markets and totals: Chelsea to win both halves matched at attractive +100 odds and the Over 2.5 at -118.
