Tottenham Hotspur are vying for a Top 6 finish but recent form thrusts that ambition into question. Can Tottenham bounce back against a beatable Sunderland? Find out as we breakdown this clash and deliver our soccer free picks.

Tottenham hotly favoured
Tottenham Hotspur enter their upcoming clash with Sunderland at the significant advantage. Sportsbooks are trading the Spurs on -200 soccer odds to win outright, fancied odds that stand in stark contrast to recent form that has taken a bit of a nosedive.

The Spurs are flush off a 4-0 disembowelling at Anfield Stadium – a full-blown massacre that bore similar resemblance to their 4-0 debacle at Stamford Bridge last month, and marked their fourth defeat in seven away games across all competitions and third straight in Premier League.

As it so happens, Tottenham are hosting Sunderland at White Hart Lane on Sunday where form is decidedly more encouraging of late, not to mention the fact that the Black Cats, who have barely struck an audible chord all season long, hardly present an insurmountable hurdle on paper.

At White Hart Lane, the Spurs boast an 8-3-5 record, which includes five wins in their last seven games – the two exceptions being a 5-1 defeat to Man City and a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal. Against lesser opposition, the Spurs have fared well enough and that reality is what matters most as far as their next league engagement with Sunderland is concerned. Fundamentally, the Black Cats are mired in a fight for Premier League life and time is running out on them.

If there were one aspect that would be a cause for concern, it’s the Spurs suspect firepower at White Hart Lane. In 16 home fixtures they’ve only mustered up 19 goals but conceded 21.

Sunderland fighting for Prem survival
Sunderland are one of several favourites for relegation this season, an occurrence that is being matched at -225 futures betting odds at Bet365 and makes them the third favourites behind Fulham and Cardiff City and -700 and -350 respectively.

The Black Cats are sat in 19th place with a 6-7-17 mark and 25 points. They are a point ahead of Fulham, who currently prop up the league. And they are a point behind Cardiff City in 18th place and four points behind West Bromwich in 17th place and the safe zone.

At the start of the second half of the season, the Black Cats appeared to be turning the corner. Although they opened on a defeat to Aston Villa on January 1st, they then embarked on an eight-game undefeated run across all competitions – seven wins and a draw. Remarkably, they reached the League Cup final where they lost to Man City 3-1.

In hindsight, it would appear that the League Cup defeat took the wind out of their sails. Sunderland haven’t won a match since, going 0-1-4 in their ensuing five fixtures; nor have they scored much either, scoring just two goals while conceding nine.

Indeed, Sunderland’s recent form makes for discouraging reading, which understandably correlates to rather hefty underdog odds of +500 to win outright at the expense of Tottenham across sports betting platforms.

Soccer Betting Verdict:
This is Tottenham’s match to win or lose. Granted, form over the last few weeks hasn’t been great but those defeats did come to their betters in the table. Importantly, against lesser opponents, the Spurs have fared well. That’s why they are the choice soccer pick at -200 at Bet365 against a beatable Sunderland.
