If we go by recent form, the Saints hold the edge in this weekend's Premier League encounter with Tottenham at White Hart Lane. Still, that doesn't make Southampton the automatic selection with our free soccer picks.

Odds Overview
The favorites tag belongs to Tottenham at home, with sportsbooks listing them at +115 to +125 for the most part. Southampton can be backed at right around +270, with a draw trading at +225 to +250 soccer odds.

Thursday's draw with Benfica makes it four straight matches without a victory for Tim Sherwood's men.

It all started with a 4-0 drubbing by Chelsea in the Premier League, followed by consecutive home losses to Benfica (1-3) and Arsenal (0-1). Spurs put forth a much better effort during the week, making the Portuguese outfit sweat in a 2-2 final.

Nacer Chadli had made things very interesting with two goals in two minutes, leaving Tottenham just one more goal away from pulling off the shocker and advancing on aggregate. However, they couldn't get another one in and Benfica put the tie out of reach with a Lima penalty in stoppage time.

Now out of the Europa League, Spurs only has the league to worry about, having already been knocked out of the F.A. Cup and Capital One Cup as well. That could end up being a blessing in disguise as they  battle with Everton and Manchester United for league position.

One problem: Spurs have failed to make White Hart Lane a fortress this season, having actually allowed more goals (19) than they've scored (16) in 15 fixtures. All in all, they've recorded seven wins, three draws and five defeats at home, a mark that will have to be improved if Tottenham want to maintain their current standing.

After a humbling 3-0 loss at home to Liverpool, the Saints could have kept their heads down and let the result break their spirit.

However, it's had the opposite effect, as Southampton has earned back-to-back victories over Crystal Palace (1-0 away) and Norwich City (4-2 at home).

The Saints looked incredibly comfortable after going up 3-0 through goals from Morgan Schneiderlin, Rickie Lambert and Jay Rodriguez, but the Canaries made things interesting by scoring two goals in a two-minute span in the second half. Southampton held strong though and crushed Norwich's hopes with a goal out of Sam Gallagher in the seventh minute of stoppage time.

Can Southampton maintain this good run of form? Their first encounter Tottenham was back-and-forth stuff, with Spurs emerging as 3-2 victors at St. Mary's.

The Saints will try to return the favor this time around, as they look to add another win to their solid away record. They have six wins, four draws and five losses in 15 away matches this term.

Premier League Pick
Tottenham has the luxury of playing at home here, but we shouldn't forget they also just played on Thursday in a hard-fought match in Portugal.

Tired legs could be an issue for Spurs, at least in some areas of the pitch, which is one of the reasons we feel Southampton could really make the hosts work here. The Saints have looked good over the last couple of weeks and will have had a full week to come up with some worthwhile tactics.

With that being said, we feel the best soccer betting value for this upcoming in London could be on a draw. We don't see much separating these teams on Sunday.

Pick: Tottenham 1 Southampton 1
