Brom Albion Survival Hanging By A Thread
West Bromwich Albion have gained breathing room at the bottom of the table, pulling five points clear of the relegation line and, as such, they are matched at +900 futures betting odds to be relegated by season end. A good distance larger than top favourites Cardiff City at -1000, Sunderland at -600 and Fulham at -200, and in that there is some relief for fans.
Form is finally improving under Pep Mel who signed on the dotted line on January 9, 2014. Since his first official game in charge on January 20 that resulted in an auspicious 1-1 draw to Everton, the Magpies have lost just one home game – 3-0 to Manchester United.
But the Magpies are a sub-par 2-5-5 overall since Mel came on board and, most notably, went without a victory for eight straight matches until finally they beat Swansea City 2-1 on the road on March 15. Last week, Mel and his Magpies recorded their second victory together. Once again however it was a road win, 1-0 over Norwich City.
So as Mel and Company look ahead to the prospect of a third win together, first at home. What are their chances of procuring it at the expense of Tottenham Hotspur? If sports betting markets were any indication, the answer would be slim to none. They are matched at hefty +200 soccer odds to win outright – an apt price altogether, though, given their inability to buy a home win no matter how hard they try.
Hotspur Feeling The Pressure
Tottenham Hotspur have Manchester United nipping uncomfortably at their heels in the table, just two points adrift and putting up a good fight for the coveted sixth spot. As things currently stand, it’s a tight race between the pair to finish in the Top 6, matched as they are at -120 and -138 futures betting odds respectively. Having said that did you know the Spurs are still in play for a Top 4 finish? It’s a bit of long shot and it would take a minor miracle but futures odds are still trading, hovering as high as +3300 at Bet365.
The Spurs are flush off a commanding 5-1 victory over Sunderland in week 33 EPL betting. Although what takeaway is to be had is debatable seeing that Sunderland are on the verge of dropping out of top-flight action.
Recent form has been up and down but mostly down as the Spurs boast three defeats in their last five games overall, including two separate 4-0 routings at Anfield Stadium and Stamford Bridge. Granted those defeats were against the league’s top set and, as such, have to be taken with some reservation. But because all three came in succession on the road, it means the Spurs go to the West Midlands this weekend on a three-game losing streak on the road.
West Bromwich Albion are mired in a battle for survival. They have some breathing room at the moment but a defeat could plunge them deeper into the quagmire so they’ll be desperate for a result here – be it a draw or a win. Given the fact that they haven’t lost at home since Pep Mel took over is encouraging and suggests that they have a chance at least on the draw at +240. Then again they’ve notched two wins in their last three games so there is no reason why they wouldn’t aim higher and try to go for the win at +200. Either way, the Magpies shouldn’t be discounted from your soccer picks if you are so inclined.
For our money however we’re going with the Spurs to win outright. They have the on paper advantage over West Brom and, typically, they stack up well against lesser sides. Keep in mind, they’ve been frustrated on the road on three previous occasions so they need to get back into the win column desperately.
