With DC United the oddsmakers prohibitive favorites here, is it smarter to back the better team at Home or is it possibly worth taking a shot on Real Salt Lake as the big betting underdogs here?

Odds Overview
Real Salt Lake at DC United [Sunday 00:00] (MLS Live, CSN-Washington, KMYU (USA) 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT): Runaway Eastern Conference leaders DC United (10-5-7, 24 GF-20 GA) welcome the 7th-place team in the Western Conference, Real Salt Lake (7-8-7, 23 GF-27 GA) to RFK Stadium in Washington, DC for this Week 24 MLS fixture. Real Salt Lake Sandy
Real Salt Lake (2-2-6 Away, 6 GF-16 GA) was 2-2-2 on the Road at one point but now with just 6 Goals in 10 Away games, fading Real Salt Lake from Rio Tinto Stadium may be a thing. Real Salt Lake and Head Coach Jeff Cassar switched back to a Diamond Formation and have played better of late, but still need to try to generate more quality attempts on target. RSL (33/1 to win MLS Cup, BetVictor) is usually a decent Defensive team with GK Nick Rimando and with Kyle Beckerman, Álvaro Saborío (3 goals), Luke Mulholland (2 goals), Argentinian Javier Morales (2 goals) and John Sterzer (1 goal), do have some talent but this club has dropped off from recent years and is now being kept down in the standings in the Western Conference by all of the talented teams above them.

DC United
Eastern Conference leaders DC United (7-3-1 Home, 18 GF-10 GA, 35 points) had an 11-point lead over the 2nd-place team in the conference not so long ago, and now suddenly after two straight Losses, DCU finds the Columbus Crew (32 points) just 3 points off the lead. It may time for the smelling salts, Bubba. DC United Head Coach Ben Olsen and this team have made Defense (20 Goals Allowed) their calling card and is tied for 2nd in the MLS in Total Goals Allowed behind the (surprise!) Colorado Rapids 19. This is a weird league. One problem for the Black-and-Red has been injuries, with a number of guys out including starting GK Bill Hamid, who had surgery on both a Hand and a Knee and is out 4-6 weeks. Chris Pontius (2 goals), Sean Franklin (1 goal) and Michael Farfan have also had injury issues. In their last game in Week 23 play on Sunday here at Home, DC United rallied from a 2-0 deficit to top the Philadelphia Union, 3-2 as fFabián Espíndola scored the game-winner in the 79th minute on a header and Alvaro Saborio scored in his DCU debut and Nick Deleon added the game-tying score in the Second Half. The win snapped a 3-match winless streak for DC United. On the attack, DCU is led by Chris Rolfe (6 goals), Jairo Arrieta (5 goals), Perry Kitchen (2 goals), Conor Doyle (1 goal),Bobby Boswell (1 goal), Luis Silva (1 goal), Sunday’s hero Espíndola (2 goals)—who missed a PK against the Union in Sunday with Philadelphia up 2-0—Steve Birnbaum (1 goal) and Kofi Opare (1 goal) and the best (highest) odds out there currently for DC United to win MLS Cup are still +500 at BetVictor..

Current Form, Series Trends, Betting Conclusions
Real Salt Lake leads this series lifetime in MLS play, but just barely, going 7-4-6 (24 GF-24 GA) but DC United—now tied with FC Dallas for the Supporters’ Shield race—is an unbeaten 5-3-0 (17-5 GA) lifetime against RSL here at Home at RFK. So, this is a series dominated by the Home teams—Real Salt Lake is a dominating 7-1-1 (19 GF-7 GA) in the Beehive State—and the 2,080 mile distance and three Time Zone difference (ET to PT) is probably a big reason why. And that’s good stuff to run with our soccer picks in this situation, laying the lumber with the Home and better team in DCU (Current Form: LWWDLLW) despite backup GK Andrew Dykstra possibly being in goal. With RSL (Current Form: WLDDLW) having scored only 6 goals on the Road so far this season heading in and them playing the team with the 2nd-least Goals Allowed (20) in DC United, letting Logic rule is the way to roll here in cherry-blossomed DC. Embrace Logic.

Predicted Final Score: DC United 2 Real Salt Lake 0
