The Rogers Cup takes place in Montreal and will be played on Hard Court.
After Serena Williams’ retirement from this event due to a shoulder injury, Garbine Muguruza is now the highest ranked player on the top half of the draw. Muguruza returns to competition after a disappointing loss in Wimbledon’s second round against Jana Cepelova, with the Spaniard still trying to cope with the pressure around her for winning the French Open.
Looking to Garbine’s draw on this event, the Spaniard won’t have an easy task with high quality players on her quarter such as Johanna Konta, Dominika Cibulkova or Carla Suarez Navarro. If Muguruza survives the first rounds and reaches the semifinals, things will only get tough for her with Agnieszka Radwanska, Venus Williams or Madison Keys as potential opponents.
Due to Garbine’s weak performances after the French Open, her record on this event – with just one victory in her two previous appearances – and the tough draw ahead of her, it’s impossible for us to find any value on her betting odds at +500 at BetVictor.
After a tough start of the year with several physical issues, the 2015 Rogers Cup runner-up – Simona Halep – is returning to her best level. Simona loves to compete on this North-American WTA Premier events on Hard Court, with a terrific 70.51% winning record on them.
Taking a look now to Halep’s draw on this event, the Romanian shouldn’t experience any major issues on her debut, where she’ll face the winner of the match between Daria Gavrilova and Annika Beck. On the following round Simona might face one of the biggest servers on the tour, Karolina Pliskova, however, this is a very good match-up for Halep with her counter punching skills creating several problems to the Czech.
Looking now to Halep’s potential opponents in the quarterfinals, the 2012 Rogers Cup champion, Petra Kvitova, is the most dangerous of them yet, the last month haven’t been easy for the Czech and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Kvitova losing in the first rounds of this event.
Angelique Kerber is the highest ranked player in the bottom half of the draw and the two might face in the semifinals; however, Kerber might not present herself at 100% on this event after being forced to withdraw from Bastad last week due to an elbow injury.
With this in mind, we believe that Halep might leave Montreal with the title and for that reason, our suggestion is for you to add the Romanian to your betting picks at +700 on BetVictor.
Player to keep an eye on
It hasn’t been a very easy year for the 2015 US Open runner-up, Roberta Vinci, with several early losses, especially on the clay court season. However, the Italian can never be underestimated due to her large experience and tricky game style.
Roberta already made some good runs on this tournament with three appearances on this event’s quarterfinals – the last one in 2015 where she lost to Serena Williams.
Vinci is in the 4th quarter of the draw with Angelique Kerber as the highest ranked player on it. However and as we mentioned before, the German might not be at 100% for this event. Besides Kerber, there are other tough opponents that Roberta might face such as Camila Giorgi, Sloane Stephens, Samantha Stosur or Elina Svitolina. Despite having a tough draw ahead of her, we believe that Vinci has a good opportunity to reach the latter stages of this event.
