The 2019/2020 PGA Tour Season begins in West Virginia at a tournament that is normally played in July.

The Old White TPC at Greenbrier

September 12-15

Sulphur Springs, West Virginia

Par 70, 7286 yards

At 550 meters above sea level, in a picturesque setting at the foot of mountains of West Virginia, we have The Old White TPC at Greenbrier.

A course that is a tricky challenge with many doglegs while negotiating a stream that runs through the course. Long hitters find it impossible to overpower and some of the PGA Tour shorter hitters prosper year in year out.

Tournament Betting Tips And Predictions

Last year’s winner Kevin Na has won since at the Charles Schwab Challenge in June. After many years on tour plying his trade, he appears to have become comfortable winning tournaments.

Born in Korea, the Korean American professional first took up PGA Tour status in 2004 with his only other tournament victory being the Shriners Open in 2011. A player who is perfectly equipped for golf courses that require guile rather than power, we need to consider he has a chance of winning back to back titles.

Double Masters champion Bubba Watson is not a player who we would initially believe suited to the demands at The Old White TPC but he does hold some promising form at the venue.

Last years Military Tribute at Greenbrier he was two shots behind winner Kevin Na after 54 holes but a final round of 72 meant he lost a winning chance to fall off the first page of the leaderboard.

That set the tone for the year as Watson was unusually subdued having a rare winless season on the PGA Tour although he still managed two top 5 finishes. I don’t expect the winless run to continue for this multiple winner who was 9th at the FedEx St. Jude Invitational two starts ago.

While I am discussing last year’s result it would be remiss of me not to mention Jason Kokrak who finished in 3rd place.

At last month’s Tour Championship he finished the PGA Tour season in a superb ninth place due to a great run of form in his last four tournaments locking up Top 20 finishes in each.

Yet to win on the PGA Tour in his career, that makes finishing ninth over the season an even more remarkable effort and reward for superb consistency. He is without a doubt my idea of banker of the week in the Top 20 market for the Greenbrier.

Robert Streb has been twice a runner up at this event in 2017 and 2015. Like Simpson, he too appears to play his best golf at this time of the year winning the 2014 McGladrey Classic in the month of October.

Having lost his playing privileges last season he won them straight back, playing solid golf in the Korn Ferry Tour finals finishing 16th and comfortably finishing in the top 25. With two top 5 finishes in his last four tournaments, Streb represents a solid pick this week in the Top 5 market.

Canadian professional David Hearn interests me this week on the back of four top 20 finishes in six starts at the Old White TPC.

Add in the fact that he snatched his tour card for the season at the recent Korn Ferry Tour finals with a superb final round of 66. His confidence should be fully restored and he will be sharper than most this week at a course he likes.

Best Bet

Jason Kokrak – Top 20 @ +100 BetOnline

Picks

Robert Streb – Top 5 @ +1100 BetOnline

David Hearn – Top 20 @ +400 BetOnline
