Quail Hollow Golf and Country Club set one of the longer and sterner tests on the PGA Tour. Set on Bermuda Grass fairways and greens both seeded plentifully in Ryegrass, the Tom Fazio multiple re-designed course, in particular, to lengthen for the PGA Championship of 2017. The three finishing holes called the Green Mile are a severe test of nerve for the players and this is an event that throws up a shock winner on occasion.

Max Homa, Defending Champion After Cancelled 2020 Renewal
Strange occurrence for a PGA Tour professional to be defending champion for two years but of course for obvious reasons, that is what Max Homa, has to look forward to this week. We know Max Homa is becoming a more accomplished competitor on the PGA Tour every week and last week he challenged strongly at the Innisbrook Resort for the Valspar Championship. Earlier in 2021, he won his second career PGA Tour title at the Riviera Country Club in the Genesis Invitational. Funnily enough, like Quail Hollow Golf and Country Club, Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles has hosted several major championships and known as one of the more severe tests on the PGA Tour. They were other reasons that Homa had maximum motivation for the Genesis Invitational, he was born nearby in Burbank and first attended the event at the age of two.
Homa revealed more about his affinity for the event after winning, when he said, “Been watching this tournament my whole life, it’s why I fell in love with Golf- wow, didn’t think it’d be like this (choking up). Tiger is another reason, I’m into golf. Had good feelings this week. Been playing great. City of Champions, you know -,Dodgers, Lakers and me now, so it’s a weird feeling.” In that quote he said ‘Been playing great’ and yes, he had been in great form leading into the Los Angeles event with a 7th place finish the week before at the Pebble Beach Pro-am on the back of four solid week’s.
This leads me to the conclusion that when in good form, Max Homa has no issues with fatigue. After the emotional outpouring from his Genesis Invitational win, it has understandably taken him a few weeks to return to an even keel but his form at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and the Valspar Championship of the last two weeks tells us he is back in top form. He is a must selection as defending champion this week in the win and top 20 markets.

New Zealander, Danny Lee Was an Eye-Catcher at the Valspar Championship
New Zealand’s, Danny Lee was an eye-catching name in the higher echelons of last week’s leaderboard at the Valspar Championship. For over a year since his 5th at the Arnold Palmer Invitational of 2020, Lee has been badly struggling on the PGA Tour. Amazingly, the Korean born Lee is still only thirty years of age, having won as an amateur on the European Tour in 2009 at the Johnnie Walker Classic in Australia. Since he has managed to win once on the PGA Tour at the Greenbrier Classic of 2015 and his results have always been sporadic, but he is capable of some big performances once in form. He has made the cut on three occasions at Quail Hollow and two of those have resulted in top 20 finishes, illustrating his liking for the track. With that in mind, for our Golf picks, we are backing him this week for a third top 20 finish at the Wells Fargo Championship.
