Fabricio Werdum vs. Renan Ferreira
PFL Week 3 Heavyweight Main Event Bout
Thursday, May 6th, 2021 – at the Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA
Highly talented Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, Fabricio Werdum, makes his PFL(Premier Fight League) debut after parting with the UFC earlier this year. The big pay cheques came calling for the Brazilian, and he’ll now transfer his entertaining fight skills into a PFL octagon.
Werdum and his grappling prowess should not be taken lightly; a four-time BJJ world champion, a two-time Abu Dhabi Combat Club World Champion and a European BJJ champion. His accolades are undeniable, and through twenty-four professional MMA victories, he has claimed twelve of those by submission.
Fabricio Werdum MMA Accomplishments
- UFC Heavyweight Champion (One time)
- Interim UFC Heavyweight Champion (One time)
- Fight of the Night (One time)
- UFC Performance of the Night (Three times)
- Multiple Time International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu FederationWinner/Runner-up
- Multiple Time ADCC Submission Wrestling World ChampionWinner/Runner-up.
There isn’t much known about the opposition for Werdum this week, but the first thing you’ll notice about Renan is his size! At 6’10, he towers above the competition and is also weirdly agile. When considering his size, his agility is the scariest attribute surrounding this PFL prospect, and he’ll be eager to take a big name like Fabricio Werdum on his record.
A professional since 2013, the 32-year-old Renan has only suffered through his lack of MMA experience. A 6-2 record isn’t the vast amount of participation you would want to see from a professional of eight years, but his BJJ brown belt and huge size could make up for these downfalls.
Renan Ferreira Combat Sport Accomplishments
- Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Brown Belt out of Team Nogueira.
PFL 2021 Week 3: Ferreira vs Werdum Early Prediction
How can Ferreira win?
The sheer size and athleticism of Renan Ferreira would be a problem for any heavyweight on the PFL roster. If Werdum is to rush in with no regard for his opponent’s size and power, he could pay the price by eating some early shots that could put him out.
How can Werdum win?
I genuinely believe that Werdum should stick to a well-thought game plan; because he has a minimal chance of losing this contest. His grappling experience and MMA involvement, in general, trumps that of his opponent. The only disadvantages for Werdum are his age, but besides that, I’m struggling to find a scenario where the Brazilian grappling legend could lose this bout.
Werdum vs. Ferreira Betting Odds Advice
The bookmaker’s current odds-on Werdum are entirely unexpected; I genuinely expected to see him around the -500 mark. If you know me, you know that I dislike paying over two units towards one fighter unless I’m completely sold, and given the age of Werdum, I am hesitant. With that said, I do believe Werdum win’s this fight nine times out of ten, and without paying up, he makes the idealistic parlay piece.
