The odds on the Parramatta Eels seizing NRL Grand Final glory continue to dwindle as they go from strength to strength.

The Parramatta Eels have been installed as the new second favorites to win the NRL Grand Final this year after making a blistering start to the season. Parramatta cemented their position at the top of the ladder by securing a 42-4 victory over the Cowboys in their last match. They have made a 7-1 start to the season and the odds on them seizing their first title in 34 years continue to dwindle.

Defender premiers Sydney Roosters naturally remain the favorites for glory. They are the only team to beat Parramatta this season, and they are the top scorers in the NRL. However, Trent Robinson’s men have already lost three out of their eight matches, and their chances of securing a third consecutive premiership look a little shaky.

Both the Roosters and Melbourne Storm are beset by injuries, and NRL great Phil Gould fears they may not have enough in the tank to go all the way this year. “We look at the Storm and Roosters game the other night, it’s so far above the other grades of football we’re watching over the weekend, you just say they’re the two really good teams,” said Gould on The Final Whistle. “But there’s a couple of teams just underneath them, the Panthers and the Eels. They’ve got younger legs and they’re fresher. They’re on the up.”

Younger Legs

Gould believes that the Roosters and Storm could start to fall apart in 15 weeks’ time, as they both looked beaten up in their last game, which the Storm won 27-25. “At the end of that game the Roosters and Storm looked really physically battled, they’re getting some injuries,…” said Gould. “I just think the younger legs of the Eels and Panthers just might run over them at the back end of the season.”

The Eels showed a great deal of potential last year. They finished fifth in the ladder, and their 58-0 Elimination Final win over the Brisbane Broncos broke the record for the biggest winning margin in Finals history. However, they ran out of steam in the semi-finals and lost heavily to the Storm. Yet they have continued on an impressive upward curve, and they could be the main beneficiaries if the injury-ravaged Roosters and Storm struggle to find form come Finals time. The Eels have already beaten the Panthers this year, and look as though they are ready to step up to the next level.

A Force of Nature

They were utterly superb in wiping the floor with the Cowboys last time out. Parramatta have speed, strength and aggression in abundance, they are well coached and they have plenty of match winners within their ranks. Maika Sivo was a force of nature, while the likes of Clint Gutherson, Dylan Brown and Reed Mahoney have also improved considerably this season.

SBR’s top sportsbooks now make them the second-favorites to win the Grand Final, best priced at just +350 for glory. The Roosters remain the +225 favorites, but it is interesting to see the Eels well ahead of the Storm, the Raiders and the Panthers in the betting. Most of the action among bettors has gone on the Roosters and the Storm, and understandably so, as they have been exceptionally consistent over the past few years, and they have plenty of world-class players.

However, the Eels have fresh legs, energy, drive, and a desire to win. That makes them very dangerous. Next up they face a strong Knights side, who sit fourth in the ladder, above the Roosters and the Raiders, and it interesting to see that the Eels are the clear favorites with our best sports betting sites to win the game. You can find odds of +100 on the Eels -4, and that looks like a tempting option, as they are surging with confidence right now.
