La La Land has been nominated for a record tying 14 nominations and is poised to win many of them. But copping Best Original Song seems like a surefire lock in our Oscar picks for Sunday night.
City of Stars, “La La Land” -750
How Far I'll Go, "Moana" +600
Audition, "La La Land" +800
Can't Stop The Feeling!, "Trolls" +2500
The Empty Chair, "Jim: The James Foley Story" +4000
You can include a longshot in any of your Oscar picks that oppose the ubiquitous nominee La La Land but how can you avoid its inclusion in Best Original Song? It's a freakin' musical and if there is any one category that La La Land should win it is this one, especially because it owns not one but two of the five entries in this category.
Now you could lay the hefty Oscar odds of -750 and go with City of Stars but I prefer to back its less heralded song, Audition. Perhaps it's the way Emma Stone delivered it, invoking all the emotion, wistfulness and even a bit of melancholy that describes her character's journey throughout the film. Though not technically outstanding, Emma Stone doesn't have to be and this solo performance is more heartfelt and poignant than even her duet with Ryan Gosling in City of Stars. We believe the Academy will see it the same way.Academy Award Pick: Audition +800Best Line Offered: at Bovada
