Liberty National Golf Club
The top 125 golfers on the PGA Tour head to New Jersey this week as the FedEx playoff series begins. There is plenty to play for with only the Top 70 on the ranking list making the cut for next week’s BMW Championship.
Liberty National Golf Club plays host for the third time having previously held the 2009 and 2013 renewals. In 2017 the course which is less than a mile away from the Statue of Liberty hosted the American team slamming the International team in the Presidents Cup. The course was purpose-built with former US Open champion Tim Kite being one of the designer’s and made from Bentgrass on greens and fairways. We have learned that the course favors tee to green precision with some of the smallest greens on tour. Those greens are renowned as some of the best putting surfaces on Tour.
Win Market Betting Predictions and Picks
As mentioned above we know how well the American players performed in the 2017 Presidents Cup and the one player who stood out was Dustin Johnson (+1600) with four match wins. He has been a little quiet lately but often a player to follow on the West Coast has won the 2016 US Open at Oakmont, Pennsylvania and runner up the year after at Chambers Bay, Washington. His resume tells us he has also won four FedEx playoff events in recent years and this looks a perfect week to bet him.
Brooks Koepka (+800) also starred in the last Presidents Cup at Liberty National Golf two years ago and how his life has changed since with four major titles now in the bag. He has become Golf’s dominant force without a doubt and ruffled a few feathers recently by disclosing that he does not practice between events. I actually think he is being sensible in pacing his schedule around the major championships. Next April will be the next major championship and that is a long time to wait so I was not surprised to see how well he played in winning the FedEx St. Jude Invitational two weeks ago. With no major championships looming he will be determined to finish his superb season in style and rates a good bet this week.
Dustin Johnson (+1600)
Brooks Koepka (+800)
Patrick Cantlay v Tiger Woods
Patrick Cantlay (-130)
Tiger Woods (+110)
This is an interesting match up to analyze given the two previous events at Liberty National Tiger Woods showed a liking for the course finishing 2nd on both occasions. The last time we saw Tiger Woods on a golf course was the Open Championship at Royal Portrush Golf Club where he soldiered on despite obviously not being 100% fit. It is difficult to get a read on whether Tiger was being cautious considering the wet weather and his back condition or if it was something more serious. I think we can rule out the later with Tiger teeing it up this week however, an opening couple of rounds will dictate his week’s work I am sure.
Patrick Cantlay is still in the early stages of what looks like will be a glittering career on the PGA Tour. He won the Memorial Tournament this year and has been a model of consistency throughout. This week is his debut at Liberty National Golf but those Tee to Green statistics I mentioned earlier is the area of the game he excels.
I am really happy to see Tiger Woods trying to tee it up at the “Big Apple’ this week but this will be a matchup I doubt he will win. With his light schedule, we can only surmise he has not been able to practice as much as he would like or is needed. Patrick Cantlay is the polar opposite with no injury worries while being sharp from competition and practice giving a rock-solid match bet against the great champion Tiger Woods.
