Tom Hiddleston, AKA Loki, is the new favorite to be named the next James Bond after soaring ahead of Idris Elba and Tom Hardy.

"Avengers" co-star Tom Hiddleston has become the clear favorite to take over from Daniel Craig as the next James Bond.

Hiddleston shot to fame by portraying Loki in a number of Marvel movies, and he showed off his acting chops with a Bond-esque turn in hit TV show "The Night Manager." A week ago he was +800 to be named the next Bond, well behind Idris Elba and Tom Hardy, but he has suddenly gone all the way to -150 with William Hill. Amid talk of a first female Bond or a black Bond, Hiddleston would represent a safe and conservative choice, and sportsbooks believe he will get the nod.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">How would you like to see Tom Hiddleston as James bond? The 25th movie in the franchise will be released in early 2020, after which Craig will leave the high-profile role to work on other projects. The James Bond series is the longest-running in history, having been in on-going production since 1962, and it is the fourth-highest grossing series of all time, so speculation about who will take on the role is rife.

Franchise producer Barbara Broccoli said in August that it was time for a black Bond, and Elba instantly became the favorite. The hulking Brit is a household name across the world thanks to his star turns in "The Wire,"" Luther" "Star Trek Beyond," "Prometheus," "The Dark Tower" and "The Jungle Book." He is also in "The Avengers" franchise alongside Hiddleston as Heimdall. Elba has an imposing physical presence and he would certainly take the Bond character in an interesting new direction. However, he is now 46 – nine years older than Hiddleston – and that may be prohibitive to him taking on the role.

Roger Moore was 46 when her made his first appearance as the suave spy, but Sean Connery was just 32, George Lazenby was 30, Craig was 38, Timothy Dalton was 41 and Pierce Brosnan was 42. However, Connery kept going until he was 53 and Moore appeared in "A View To Kill" at age 57, while Craig will be 52 by the time his final outing is released, so there is hope yet for Elba. He is now the second favorite, +350 with William Hill but out at +500 with Coral, so that might make an interesting bet.

Hardy is now 41 and he already has a huge body of work to his name. He has played a spy in "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy", an action hero in the likes of "Mad Max" and "Inception," a villain in "The Revenant" and "Legend," and a huge, brooding presence in movies such as "Lawless," "Warrior" and "The Drop." He does not seem quite as polished and charming as previous Bonds, but he would bring an interesting gruff physicality to the role and take it in another interesting direction. He has now drifted out to +500 and that also might tempt some bettors.

At +1600 you can find Richard Madden and Henry Cavill. Madden rose to prominence as Robb Stark in "Game of Thrones," and he is now earning rave reviews for his role in "The Bodyguard." Cavill already has played Superman, so Bond would certainly not faze him. The first woman on the list is Emily Blunt at +4000, while "X Files" star Gillian Anderson is +5000, or you can back “any female” at +1200.

Other notable inclusions are Cillian Murphy at +2000, Orlando Bloom at +3300 and Damian Lewis at +5000. If you are really speculating, you can get +50000 on P Diddy, +500 on David Beckham and +25000 on "Harry Potter" actor Daniel Radcliffe.
