NASCAR’s Monster Energy Cup Series returns to fabled Talladega Superspeedway this Sunday in the halfway point of this season’s 10-race playoff to the 2018 racing title. Race time for Sunday’s 500 is set for 2 p.m. with NBC carrying all the action from one of the most iconic racing venues in the nation.

I went with Chase Elliott as my +1000 top-valued contender last Sunday at Dover and he came through with the win. Denny Hamlin placed second in that race and my top-valued longshot, Joey Logano took third at +2500 odds to win.

The betting odds to win this Sunday’s race at Talladega are on the NASCAR future’s board at 5Dimes and the following three drivers offer the best value across three different categories.

Top-Valued Favorite: Joey Logano +825

What is up is suddenly down when it comes to the betting odds to win at this track. The high level of unpredictability in a restrictor plate race at a very unpredictable racing venue gives any number of drivers a chance to win. One of the reasons that I like the value in Logano’s odds to win (along with last week’s strong showing at Dover) is his past success this time of the year racing the No. 22 Ford. He has a way of remaining in the mix as the weeks wear on and the motivation to win this Sunday at a track he knows very well is about as high as it gets.

The main reason why I love the value in his betting odds is three victories at Talladega in a Cup Series event since the 2015 season. This includes a trip to the Winner’s Circle last season in this Sunday’s event.

Top-Valued Contender: Kyle Busch +1650

As mentioned, the odds tend to be all over the board when NASCAR stages an event at this track. Anytime you can get this kind of number on Busch, you have to jump at the chance. This is especially true this season given everything the No. 18 Toyota has accomplished to date. Along with seven previous victories in a Cup Series event, including the recent playoff race at Richmond, he has made his way inside the top five in 11 other races. Add in 1230 total laps led and it all adds up to quite a bit of value at +1650.

The lone drain is a less than stellar performance at Talladega over the course of Busch’s career with an average finishing position of 20.5, but I am betting on current form at a track where anything can happen.

Top-Valued Longshot: Kyle Larson +3300

The main reason I went with Logano at longer odds last week was his need to solidify his position in the standings to qualify for the next elimination round. Larson finds himself in the same position this week after slipping to 11th place in the current standings with 3031 points after placing 12th at Dover. A top three finish would help, but a victory moves him to the top of the list heading into the next round. The No. 42 Chevrolet started the playoff on a strong note with a second-place finish at Las Vegas. This was one of the team’s nine runs inside the top five this season, but it is still looking for its first trip to Victory Lane this season.

Larson posted an early departure from the first race at Talladega this season with a wreck and his best career finish here was sixth in this event in 2016, but sometimes desperation brings out the best in a talented driver trying to turn things around.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

TALLADEGA IS THIS WEEK! 🙌 ;/a>
— NASCAR on NBC (@NASCARonNBC) 8 de outubro de 2018
\n"}[/]

500- Betting Odds for Other Notable Drivers

Brad Keselowski is the top favorite to win on Sunday at +600. Following Logano at +825 is Chase Elliott at +1300 and a trio of drivers at +1350 made up of Kevin Harvick, Ryan Blaney and Denny Hamlin. Kurt Busch edges out his brother for seventh on the list at +1625.
