Many of Europe’s major leagues get underway this weekend, presenting a range of intriguing betting options for football fans. The curtain will be raised in Spain, Germany, and Italy, while the English Premiership is already in full swing.

England first, where we have already had one round of fixtures and we have a better idea of who is fit and who is still carrying extra pounds from the summer break. A trio of London teams look like the best bets from this weekend’s matches. Tottenham was unlucky not to come away with three points from their opening match against a strong Everton side as they had the better chances and were knocking hard on the door towards the end of the game, but just couldn’t get the winner and drew 1-1. They host a Crystal Palace team that suffered a miserable defeat at home to West Brom in their opener and the Eagles have just lost their best player – Yannick Bolasie moved to Everton for £25 million – so it is a great time for Spurs to be playing them. They are a vastly superior team and should win comfortably, so the -200 on offer at Betfred looks a good bet.

Chelsea looked sharp in their 2-1 win against West Ham on Monday and have an easier game this weekend as they travel to Watford, who ended last season in dreadful form and drew with Sunderland in their first match. Chelsea should win this and the -133 at WilliamHill and PaddyPower on the away win looks great value. Finally, West Ham will be looking to bounce back from that narrow defeat and have a straightforward home game against Bournemouth, where they are -110 favorites with Ladbrokes, and that looks like seriously good value on a team that finished well above Bournemouth last season and has much greater financial firepower.

Juventus start their campaign with a home match against Fiorentina. They are bidding to make it six league titles in a row and although they lost Paul Pogba – who went to Man Utd in a world record transfer – they have reinvested the money shrewdly, bringing in last season’s Serie A top scorer and all around goal machine Gonzalo Higuain for an extravagant some of the money and bolstering their midfield with Roma’s Miralem Pjanic. Fiorentina was decent last season but finished 27 points behind Juve, and the Old Lady should get off to a flying start, making the -225 on offer at Coral and WilliamHlil an attractive bet. Roma, who finished third last season but are second favorites this time around, have a comfortable opening match against Udinese and are also -225 with Coral and Ladbrokes.

Barcelona has an easy match at home to Real Betis to start their campaign. They are in good shape as they destroyed Sevilla in the Spanish Super Cup, but the -1000 betting odds on them winning make them not worth bothering with. Ditto Atletico, who are just -433 to beat Alaves. The only one of Spain’s big three offering any value is Real Madrid, who are away at perennial mid-table side Real Sociedad. They are -133 with Bet365 and various others, and that looks a great bet. Los Blancos finished last season in absolutely sensational form, and the European champions should carry that over into this campaign. Elsewhere Sevilla host Espanyol and they will be the sharper of the two having played a competitive match already, where they lost 3-0 to Barca. That will have knocked their confidence, but there is no shame in losing to Barcelona and they are a better team than Espanyol, having finished six places above them last season. They also won the Europa League, beating Liverpool in the final, and they have a lot of excellent players. They are -142 to beat Espanyol at home and they had a marvellous home record last season, so that looks a great bet.

Champions Bayern Munich starts their title defence against Werder Bremen, but again the -633 odds make that barely worthwhile. You can get a better price on Borussia Dortmund, who are -225 with Betway to beat Mainz 05 at home.

Mainz is a decent side and finished fifth last season, but Borussia Dortmund was second and 28 points ahead of them. It has been a disastrous summer for Dortmund as they lost several key players, but there is still plenty of quality left and they will be keen to provide a statement of intent on the curtain raiser so that -225 looks a good bet.
