Week 5 of the 2016 Major League Soccer (MLS) season kicks off on Friday while Saturday sees seven more MLS matches and then the week is capped off with a Sunday night battle.

Here are some thumbnail sketches of the this weekend’s slate with some basic info to hopefully help with help with your soccer picks, with the three best picks listed below.

Friday, April 1, 2016
New England Revolution vs. New York Red Bulls

3-Way Odds: Revolution +125, Red Bulls +220, Draw +245 (Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook)
Total: 2½ Over -110, Under -101 (Pinnacle)

You say you want a Revolution, well you know, we all want to ... bet on Soccer. This series has seen goals, goals and more goals, with the L6 (all Overs) final score-lines NE 2-1 RBNY, RBNY 4-1 NE, NE 2-1 RBNY, NE 2-2 RBNY, RBNY 1-2 NE and RBNY 2-1. So not only has the Over ben golden lately in this Eastern Conference matchup, but the Both Teams To Score ‘Yes’ Prop is 6-0 as well (and has also W10 of 11).

New England (21-9-3, 68 GF-41 GA Lifetime Home in MLS vs. RBNY) has started the season winless (0-1-3) but Charlie Davies (Anytime Goalscorer 7/5, BetVictor) and the Revs have W14 of 20 MLS and MLS Cup meetings here at the Home of the NFL’s New England Patriots between these two, but even with the Home team having W3 straight in this series, fading RBNY and Bradley Wright-Phillips (Anytime Goalscorer +125, BetVictor) in this spot just feels wrong, so the Over (L6 averaging 3.5 gpg) and the Both Teams To Score ‘Yes’ (-140, 10Red) are the leans although the Draw may end up being the best bet in the end. Excuse the weird Final Score prediction. It will only happen once, but this feels like 1-1 or 2-2, so 1.5-1.5 it had to be. Gamblers get the point.

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":2996722, "sportsbooksIds":[43], "LineTypeId":2, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

Final Score Prediction: Revolution 1.5 Red Bulls 1.5
Free MLS Picks: Over 2½ -115 (BetVictor), Both Teams To Score ‘Yes’ -140 (10Red)

Saturday, April 2, 2016
Chicago Fire vs. Philadelphia Union

3-Way Odds: Chicago +115, Philadelphia +240, Draw +245 (Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook)
Total: 2.75 Over +113, Under -127 (Pinnacle)

The Fire are unbeaten in the L6 meetings with the Union and 4 of the L5 have ended in Draws (PHI 3-3 PHI, CHI 1-0 PHI, PHI 1-1 CHI, CHI 1-1 PHI, CHI 2-2 PHI), and Chicago’s 1-0 victory over the Union in Bridgeview (suburban Chicago) last year was the club’s first win over Philadelphia at Home since 2012 with Philadelphia winning 2 and drawing 2 of the L4 at Toyota Park (Total Corners: 10½ Under -120, bet365).

With a history of the Both Teams To Score ‘Yes’ hitting 4 out of the L5 and the Fire a club seemingly always involved in a game with an early goal scored, taking the Over 2½ seems like a logical approach despite the fact there could still be some lingering Wintry Weather in Chicagoland on Saturday afternoon (43°, Partly Sunny, Cold) with some serious winds possibly whipping through the Great Plains. Chicago is nicknamed the Windy City, after all.

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3000606, "sportsbooksIds":[43], "LineTypeId":2, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

Final Score Prediction: Fire 2 Union 2
Free MLS Picks: Over 2½ -111 (888sport), Both Teams To Score Yes -162 (bet365)

Colorado Rapids vs. Toronto FC

3-Way Odds: Rapids +120, Toronto +230, Draw +235 (Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook)
Total: 2½ Over -101, Under -110 (Pinnacle)

Goals are usually scarce at The Dick, but TFC has the prolific Sebastian Giovinco so the Canadian side could definitely win in Colorado here on Saturday evening. The Rapids win over TFC in the last outing here in Commerce City was the club’s first win over TFC since 2010, snapping a 4-game Home winless streak (0-3-1). With TFC (1-1-1) starting the season on an 8-game Road trip, the thought here is that the visitors will be mentally prepared—although the 5,000+ feet of Rocky Mountain Altitude will affect—and used to Travel already this 2016 MLS Regular Season (knowing this Road Trip was there) and will not be scared of the Rapids, however this match should be tight and quality scoring opportunities limited and the rare Match Result and Both Teams To Score market seems worth a shot...and if you think Toronto can win in this market (with the Rapids scoring), you can find current soccer odds as high as +525 (Stan James).

Hopefully this market and unique type of bet will come to the great state of Nevada (and the US) and its casinos someday. Some people seek out Black Jewell Popcorn and Cheese Curds, so, something for everyone, including the new Soccer bettors, Monsieur? The Home side has W4 of the L5 in this intra-conference series. L5 Meetings: TOR 3-1 COL, TOR 0-1 COL, COL 1-0 TOR, TOR 2-1 COL, TOR 2-1 COL.

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3000253, "sportsbooksIds":[43], "LineTypeId":2, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

Final Score Prediction: Rapids 1 Toronto 1
Free MLS Picks: Match Result And Both Teams To Score, Draw +375 (bet365), Under -110 (Pinnacle)

Sporting Kansas City vs. Real Salt Lake

3-Way Odds: SKC -115, RSL + 325, Draw +260 (Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook)
Total: 2.5 Over -105, Under -105 (Pinnacle)

The last two games played here between these two (2015, 2014) ended in 0-0 Draws while the meeting before that in the BBQ Capital of the Milky Way ended in a 1-1 scoreline. So, 2 goals in 3 games in Kansas City and 3 easy Unders. But Joao Plata (3 goals), Sunny (1 goal) and Real Salt Lake (1-2-0 [W-D-L], 6 GF-5 GA) will be up for the Western Conference fixture, but expect Dominic Dwyer (2 goals) and hot hosts Sporting Kansas City (3-0-0, 4 GF- 1 GA)—The Artist Formerly Known As The Kansas City Wizards—to find a way to get a Win and the 3 points here in a tough Defensive battle. Everything points to the Under here. (L5 Meetings: RSL 2-1 SKC, RSL 2-1 SKC, SKC 0-0 RSL, SKC 0-0 RSL, SKC 1-1 RSL).

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":2996732, "sportsbooksIds":[43], "LineTypeId":2, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

Final Score Prediction: Sporting Kansas City 1 Real Salt Lake 0
Free MLS Picks: Under 2½ +100 (Paddy Power), Sporting Kansas City Draw No Bet -225 (Coral), Sporting Kansas City -119 (William Hill)

FC Dallas vs. Columbus Crew SC

3-Way Odds: FC Dallas -120, Columbus +330, Draw +270 (Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook)
Total: 2.75 Over -101, Under -110 (Pinnacle)

One day in the not-too-distant Future, all games in the MLS will played at a venue named Toyota Park, except for Orlando which will simply be called Alligator Field. Columbus and Kei Kamara’s (1 goal) last win in Frisco (suburban Dallas) was the Crew’s first in Frisco since 2008. Michael Barrios (2 goals) and FCD won the sole meeting between these two last season, 3-0 in Columbus. L5 Meetings: CLB 0-3 DAL, CLB 0-0 DAL, DAL 2-4 CLB, CLB 2-1, DAL 2-0 CLB. Dallas (3-1-0, 7 GF- 5 GA) is an unbeaten 2-0-0 here at Home and in 2nd place in the Western Conference and will want to stay unblemished at Home and should prevail.

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3000607, "sportsbooksIds":[43], "LineTypeId":2, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

Final Score Prediction: FC Dallas 2 Crew 1
Free MLS Picks: FC Dallas -115 (NetBet UK)

Seattle Sounders vs. Montréal Impact

3-Way Odds: Seattle -110, Montréal +310, Draw +265 (Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook)
Total: 2.5 Over -108, Under -103 (Pinnacle)

Clint Dempsey and the Sounders (0-0-3) are off to the worst start in their MLS history, so it’s good that this inter-conference match is at Home in the Emerald City and that the Impact will have to deal with a 3-Hour Body Clock difference (EDT to PDT), playing in the Pacific Northwest meaning this game will end around Midnight for Montréal’s players.

With the Impact being a relatively new club in the MLS these two have only met four times (MTL 1-0 SEA, MTL 0-2 SEA, SEA 0-1 MTL, MTL 4-1 SEA) with the Impact winning 3 of the 4 and registering two Clean Sheets, including the lone meeting here at CenturyLink Field, 1-0 on March 2, 2013. This is a tough, nervy, almost must-win early season match for the Sounders but taking a shot on Montréal in the Draw No Bet marketplace seems like a wise choice in this spot.

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":2996742, "sportsbooksIds":[43], "LineTypeId":2, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

Final Score Prediction: Sounders 1 Impact 2
Free MLS Picks: Impact Draw No Bet +205 (Marathon)

Vancouver Whitecaps FC vs LA Galaxy

3-Way Odds: Whitecaps +140 LA Galaxy +200, Draw +235 (Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook)
Total: 2.75 Over +113, Under -127 (Pinnacle)

The LA Galaxy (2-0-1, [W-D-L], 7 GF-3 GA) and Robbie Keane head north of the border for this important early season tilt for both teams after the Whitecaps won both meetings last season—2-0 here at BC Place and 1-0 in Carson—as Vancouver GK David Ousted held the powerful Galaxy and Robbie Keane (2 goals), Mike Magee (2 goals) and Gyasi Zardes (2 goals) scoreless and beating them for the first time after L6 the first Regular Season meetings and embarrassingly being outscored, 13-1 in the process.

Pedro Morales and Vancouver will win this league some season (17/1 to win MLS Championship, 10Red). This should be an entertaining and tight affair, but it’s hard to imagine the Whitecaps shutting the Offense-minded Galaxy out for a third straight time. Like so many MLS matches this weekend, this one seems like it could end up in a (0-0, 1-1 or 2-2) Draw and this is a must-watch game for true MLS fans.

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3000255, "sportsbooksIds":[43], "LineTypeId":2, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

Final Score Prediction: Whitecaps 1 LA Galaxy 1
Free MLS Picks: Both Teams To Score ‘Yes’ -150 (bet365), Galaxy Draw No Bet +125 (Betway)

San José Earthquakes vs. DC United

3-Way Odds: San José -150, DC United +450, Draw +275 (Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook)
Total: 2.75 Over +111, Under -125 (Pinnacle)

DC United (0-2-2, 2 GF-8 GA) is winless this season and heads 3 Time Zones West (ET to PT) and 2,847 miles to the Pacific coast and faces a mad Earthquakes team coming off a 3-1 loss to the LA Galaxy in Week 4 play in which All-Star striker Chris Wondolowski scored in a third straight game to start the MLS season—not the first time that Wondo has done that, brother.

San José and Quincy Amarikwa (1 goal) won the only meeting last season, 2-0 vs. DC United at RFK Stadium, so this is simply just a bad scheduling spot for DC United and Lamar Neagle (1 goal) and a good betting spot for you if you know how to read words and actually create the intent to make the bet. L5 meetings: DC 0-2 SJ, SJ 1-2 DC, DC 1-0 SJ, SJ 5-3 DC, SJ 0-2 DC. This series has alternated Over/Unders the L5 meetings.

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3000608, "sportsbooksIds":[43], "LineTypeId":2, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

Final Score Prediction: Earthquakes 2 DC United 0
Free MLS Picks: Earthquakes -142 (Boylesports), Earthquakes To Win To Nil +194 (888sport)

Sunday, April 3, 2016
Orlando SC vs. Portland Timbers

3-Way Odds: Orlando +130, Portland +200, Draw +240 (bet365)
Total: 2½ Over -125, Under+100 (bet365)

Fanendo Adi (4 goals) and the defending MLS champion Portland Timbers (1-1-1, 5 GF-5 GA) head 3 Times Zones East (PDT to EDT) and 3,030 miles to Florida for this Sunday date against undefeated Orlando SC, but at least this match starts at night so any Travel and Body Clock issues should be minimal for the visitors from Washington state as opposed to the problems teams from the East have traveling (and playing) in the West. And this should be a fun one, with MLS Rookie of the Year Cyle Larin (3 goals) looking to keep his hot pace up and defend the semi-sacred Home turf of the second-year and still relatively new MLS club, OCSC (1-0-2, [W-L-D], 4 GF-3 GA) and Nat Borchers and the defending MLS champions looking to see if they can win on the Road for the first time this fres MLS season.

This should be a good game to watch and the Orlando Sentinel reported earlier this week that 33-year-old Brazilian MF Kaká has returned to training for OCSC and should be available for this crucial inter-conference match on Sunday night in the Sunshine State. OCSC won the only meeting last year, 2-0 at Providence Park in Portland with Kaká and Larin netting the game’s goals. We best stop now, you silly goose, as this wordy juice is starting to sound a little like Dr. Seuss and we are all getting a little sleepy and this sentence a little too creepy.

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":2996749, "sportsbooksIds":[43], "LineTypeId":2, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

Final Score Prediction: Orlando 2 Portland 2
Free MLS Picks: Both Teams To Score ‘Yes’ -144 (888sport), Over 2½ +102 (Marathon)

MLS Soccer Week 5 Best Bets
Fire-Union Both Teams To Score ‘Yes’ -162 (bet365)
SKC-Real SLC Under 2½ +100 (Paddy Power)
FC Dallas -115 (NetBet UK)
Sporting Kansas City -119 (William Hill)
San José Earthquakes -142 (Boylesports)
