Week 3 of the MLS kicks off on Friday; the season week wraps up on Sunday with three matches and patterns for handicappers to develop. Here are some capsules to help with your soccer picks.

Friday, March 18, 2016
New York City FC vs. Orlando City SC
Yankee Stadium, The Bronx, New York – 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT

3-Way Odds: NYCFC +110, Orlando City +240, Draw +260 at Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook
Total: 3 Over +105, Under -125 at Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook

The Orlando Sentinel reported that Kaká (Thigh) worked out with the club for the first time in weeks on Monday with OSC Head Coach Adrian Heath still tentative mid-week on a decision to play his star in this one, while Carlos Rivas (Ankle), David Mateos (Hamstring) and Bryan Róchez (Thigh) are all nurse Injuries of their own. These two 2nd-year clubs met last season in the first MLS match ever between two expansion clubs (1-1). NYCFC won the lone meeting here in The Bronx (5-3) last season while OSC won at the Citrus Bowl (2-1), the site of that meeting between two first-year clubs. With MLS 2015 Rookie of the year Cyle Larin scoring 8 goals in his L6 matches and Yankee Stadium a tight confines built for MLB and not MLS, banking on Goals, Goals by Both Teams (BTTS ‘Yes’) and Larin all seem like logical looks here on Friday in The Big Apple in the MLS Week 3 lidlifter against David Villa (Anytime Goalscorer -110, bet365), Frank Lampard and improving host NYCFC.

Saturday, March 19, 2016
Chicago Fire vs. Columbus Crew SC
Toyota Park, Bridgeview, Illinois – 5 p.m. ET

3-Way Odds: Chicago +145, Columbus +180, Draw +250 at Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook
Total: 2½ Over -130, Under +110 at Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook

The Chicago Fire currently have the second-longest winless streak in MLS history (26 games) and are a game away from tying the league record and with Kei Kamara (Anytime Goalscorer +150, Bet365) and the Crew in town for this Eastern Conference affair, there should be goals and Nervousness, especially with the visitors starting the season off with an 0-0-2 record. Last year, these two clubs met three times with Columbus an unbeaten 2-1-0 (6 GF-3 GA) against Chicago in those including a 1-0 win here at Toyota Park on July 15 in the Crew’s only trip to the Windy City where an Artist (Jim Bachor) is actually filling Potholes with Ice Cream Mosaics. (Would I lie to you? Google it, Fernando.) Vaya con Kei.

New York Bulls vs. Houston Dynamo
Red Bull Arena, Harrison, New Jersey – 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT

3-Way Odds: New York Red Bulls -135, Houston +260, Draw +270 at Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook
Total: 2.75 Over +103, Under -115 at Pinnacle

There have been 18 goals scored in the L5 meetings between these two clubs (HOU 4-2 NY, NY 1-0 HOU, HOU 2-2 NY, NY 4-0 HOU, NY 1-2 HOU) with the Over 4-1 and the Both Teams To Score Prop (‘Yes’) 3-2 over that span. Bradley Wright-Phillips (Anytime Goalscorer +100, Bet365) and New York are an unbeaten 8-3-0 in 11 meetings here at Red Bull Arena and have W5 straight Regular Season meetings against the Dynamo, so backing the hosts one way or another is recommended here and there should be some goals with Houston and new-signee Andrew Wegner popping a 5-spot on FCD in the Texas Derby in Week 2 and with an average of 3.60 gpg being scored in the L5 meetings in this inter-conference series.

FC Dallas vs. Montréal Impact
Toyota Stadium, Frisco, Texas – ET/6:00 p.m.

3-Way Odds: FC Dallas -110, Montréal -290, Draw +270 at Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook

Total: 2.75 Over +110, Under -124 at Pinnacle

One day in the not-too-distant Future, all games in the MLS will played at a venue named Toyota Park, except for San José which will be called Twitter Park at Hashtag Field. Progress? The Impact were aiming for Chelsea legend Didier Drogba (11 goals in 11 games last season) to return here on the friendly Grass of Toyota Stadium in suburban Dallas (Frisco) so the magical now 38-year-old Ivorian Striker could miss matches on Artificial Surfaces to avoid any more potential damage to his pained Knees and reports Wednesday indicate that Drogba—who has been training with the Sacramento Republic of the USL—has traveled with the team, and according to Head Coach Mauro Biello, will feature here Saturday against FCD—a huge piece of information for potential Side and Totals players here in the Lone Star State.

Last season, Ignacio Piatti (3 goals) and the Impact won for the first time in four lifetime meetings with FC Dallas in Stade Saputo, 2-1, in the lone meeting of the MLS Regular Season. Expect the hosts to be in a foul mood after allowing the most goals since 2008 in Week 2 play when the FCD was whitewashed by Houston in the Texas Derby, 5-0 at BBVA Compass Stadium and the hosts are unbeaten in two lifetime meetings with the Impact here in Frisco.

Seattle Sounders vs. Vancouver Whitecaps FC
CenturyLink Field, Seattle, Washington – 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m.

3-Way Odds: Seattle +110, Vancouver +245, Draw +250 at Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook
Total: 2.5 Over -102, Under -109 at Pinnacle

Like Vancouver (0-0-2) Columbus, Clint Dempsey (+160 Anytime Goalscorer, bet365) and the Sounders (0-0-2) have lost their first two games this season and last season in three meetings, the Visitors were victorious all 3 times, all by Clean Sheet (VAN 0-2 SEA, VAN 0-2 SEA, SEA 0-3 VAN) and GK David Ousted and the Whitecaps had W5 straight against Seattle until the Sounders won at BC Place in the first meeting last year, its first Win ever at the venue. This one should be tight and tentative throughout the MLS soccer odds boards, and does fit that Draw mold.

San José Earthquakes vs. LA Galaxy
StubHub Center, Carson, California – 10:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. PT

3-Way Odds: LA Galaxy -210, San José +600, Draw +340 at Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook
Total: 2.75 Over -115, Under -105 at Pinnacle

The Earthquakes are off to their first 2-0-0 start in MLS history and All-Star striker Chris Wondolowski (+240 Anytime Goalscorer, Bet365) has scored in both matches for San José. but winning here in suburban Los Angeles and will be difficult for the visitors in this spot, especially with the Galaxy coming off a 1-0 Loss to the Rapids in Colorado in Week 2. Last year in the California Clásico, the Home team won all 3 meetings (SJ 1-0 LA, LA 5-2 SJ, SJ 3-1 LA) and this traditionally has been a very Home-site oriented series. The Both Teams To Score ‘Yes’ Prop is 4-1 ATS the L5 meetings and there have been a total of 19 goals (3.8 gpg) scored in those L5 contests with the 7 goals scored in LA’s 5-2 victory at the StubHub Center the most goals scored in the 30-year history of this MLS rivalry. With Robbie Keane (+137 Anytime Goalscorer -150, Bet365), Robbie Rogers, Alan Gordon, Steven Gerrard and many others, the Galaxy can get scoring from so many places and get used to having a Total of 3 hung on Galaxy games. Here, playing at Home, coming off a Loss and facing their fiercest Regional rival should be enough to help get Head Coach Bruce Arena and the Galaxy the Win and the 3 points in one of those rare matches across Soccer leagues where scoring first just doesn’t matter as much.

Portland Timbers vs. Real Salt Lake
Providence Park, Portland, Oregon – 10:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. PT

3-Way Odds: Portland +135, SKC+375, Draw +280 at Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook
Total: 2.5 Over -109, Under -102 at Pinnacle

Nate Borchers and the defending MLS champion Portland Timbers (15-8-11, 41 GF-29 GA in 2015) welcome Real Salt Lake to the Rose City on Saturday night in a huge meeting for both Western Conference clubs. Nigerian Fanendo Adi (+125 Anytime Goalscorer, bet365) and Portland (7/1 to win MLS Cup, William Hill) are 2-2-0 the L4 games against Joao Plata (+260 Anytime Goalscorer, Bet365) and Real Salt Lake but the Timbers are only 1-4-2 lifetime at Providence Park in Portland against RLS (6 GF-7 GA) (in MLS play) and goals in this series lately have been as scarce as penguins in the Congo. The Both Teams To Score ‘No’ is 4-1 ATS the L5 here (RSL 0-1 POR, RSL 0-1 POR, POR 0-0 RSL, POR 0-0 RSL, RSL 1-POR 3) and there have been just 2 goals scored in the L4 meetings (0.50 gpg) with the Under easily going 4-0 ATS in those matches. This one should be close (and scoreless) for a while, with the Pacific Northwestern host Timbers eventually scoring first—and sawing a big slab off that log—and finding a way to secure the 3 points in a real battle as RSL is better than most think.

Philadelphia Union vs. New England Revolution
Talen Energy Stadium, Chester, Pennsylvania – 2:30 p.m. ET/11:30 a.m. PT

3-Way Odds: Philadelphia +140, New England -195, Draw +240 at Westgate LV SuperBook
Total: 2½ Over +100, Under -120 at Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook

Philadelphia (66/1 to win MLS Cup, William Hill) went 10-7-17 (42 GF-55 GA) last season but is 1-0-1 to open this Regular Season after two tough Road matches (FC Dallas, Crew), so expect a nice effort in the Home opener from Sebastien Le Toux (+260 Anytime Goalscorer, bet365) and Philadelphia here. The Both Teams To Score ‘Yes’ is 4-1 ATS in the L5 meetings in this series (NE 1-1 PHI, PHI 0-1 NE, PHI 1-2 NE, NE 1-3 PHI, PHI 3-5 NE) and this had historically been a high-scoring series although the L2 have gone Under. This one is a tough call, with the Chester (suburban Philadelphia) site probably being the most important handicapping factor with the Home club in this series going winless in the L5 and losing the L4 in a row. The Revolution have played to two Draws this season. Maybe they’re addicted.

DC United vs. Colorado Rapids
RFK Stadium, Washington, DC – 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT

3-Way Odds: DC United +135, Colorado +210, Draw +230 at Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook
Total: 2½ Over +107, Under -120 at Pinnacle

Host DC United and new GK Travis Worra played the New England Revolution to a 0-0 scoreless Draw in his first start last weekend and with the Under 4-1 ATS the L5 meetings in this inter-conference MLS series (COL 1-1 DC, DC 4-2 COL, COL 0-0 DC, DC 2-0 COL, DC 1-1 COL), backing a low-scoring affair seems wise here, especially with the Rapids losing 3 Body Clock Hours traveling back East (MT to ET) from Colorado to Lobbyist-ville and Colorado going 361 minutes last season before scoring its first goal. Because they’re so anemic on Offense, the Rapids do not easily make it to the soccer picks, and might also have to play good Defense, much like Atlético Madrid in European Soccer (La Liga), which won its UEFA Round of 16 Leg 2, 8-7 on PKs on Tuesday after (another) 0-0 scoreline. Nothing from nothing leaves nothing. DCU is undefeated in the L5 meetings in this series (2-3-0) and the two clubs played to a 1-1 Draw in their only meeting last year at The Dick.

Sporting Kansas City vs. Toronto FC
Children’s Mercy Park, Kansas City, Kansas – 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT

3-Way Odds: SKC -120, Toronto +325, Draw +275 at Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook
Total: 2.75 +106, Under -119 at Pinnacle

Dom Dwyer (+120 Anytime Goalscorer, bet365) and Sporting Kansas City are on the (small) downswing while Sebastian Giovinco (+125 Anytime Goalscorer, Sportingbet) and host Toronto are on the (small) upswing, so taking a shot on the value-laden (+350, 888sport) visitors from north of the border here for the smallest of amounts (or micro-units) in the niche Draw No Bet marketplace is the humble Rx (TFC +220, 32Red). Because this is gambling. But buyer beware as TFC is winless in its L6 vs SKC, just 1-2-8 Away (10 GF-28 GA) lifetime at Kansas City in MLS play and Toronto’s last win here in the city—TFC has never won at Sporting (now Children’s Mercy) Park (6-1-0)—was in 2008 when SKC was still called the Kansas City Wizards and before your Life was hijacked by that small material object in your pocket called a “Smartphone.” Well do you feel any “smarter” Bubba? The Both Teams To Score prop (‘Yes’) in this series is a perfect 5-0 the L5 meetings (TOR 1-SKC 3, SKC 4-1 TOR, TOR 1-2 SKC, SKC 2-2 TOR, TOR 1-2 SKC) and were have been a total of 19 goals scored over those games (3.80 gpg) with all 5 going Over the posted Total. So you know what to do. And I ain’t talkin’ ’bout making a call to 1-800-588-2300 EMPIRE, brougham. Give Giovinco, Mo Baboli (+120 Anytime Goalscorer, bet365) and the unbeaten Canadians a shot. So, can you hear me now? TFC has to win in Kansas City at some point, right? Or maybe the Canadians are allergic to Barbecue Ribs? So, no better time than Now, Thelma. We ride. Note: The Over was 7-3 in MLS Week 2 after going 6-4 in Week 1 with the BTTS ‘Yes’ 6-4 ATS, the same record as Week 1. And there has only been one scoreless 0-0 Draw (NE-DCU, Week 2).
