This inter-conference MLS Week 15 fixture sees the Eastern Conference’s New York Red Bulls (4-5-3, 15 GF-13 GA) heading to Texas to the play the Western Conference’s Houston Dynamo (4-5-5, 17 GF-17 GA) at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston on Friday night. Soccer odds makers have made the host Dynamo slight +150 favorites here over the visiting Red Bulls (+160) with the Draw priced at +229 (BetBright). The Total Goals in this game has yet to be posted (Sunday afternoon), but will be set at 2½ like almost all MLS matches.

Some Futures Book wagers for this midweek fixture from the east coast of Canada: To Win Eastern Conference: New York Red Bulls +400 (BetVictor); To Win Western Conference: Houston Dynamo +4000 (BetVictor); and, To Win MLS Cup: New York Red Bulls 10/1, Houston Dynamo 60/1 (Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook). The Red Bulls opened  up at 15/1 odds to win the MLS Cup while the Dynamo opened at 40/1, so you can see what bettors think about these two teams prospects to win the MLS Cup, although it would honestly be a surprise of either one did.

New York Red Bulls
The New York Red Bulls (1-3-1 Road, 6 GF-6 GA) have one of the league’s best scorers in Bradley Wright-Phillips (5 goals) and along with Lloyd Sam (3 goals), Mike Grella (2 goals), Sacha Kljestan (2 goals), Damien Perrinelle (1 goal) and Felipe Martins (1 goal), have a decent enough offense but the club really seems to miss the veteran leadership and productivity of retired French Forward Thierry Henry. Red Bulls GK Luis Robles (25 Saves, 13 Goals Conceded) is a big reason that New York is in 4th place in the Eastern Conference with 17 points heading after falling in ET to the the Seattle Sounders in the Emerald City on a Clint Dempsey goal. Mercy. And that long, near 3,000-mile trip to Seattle and then more travel to Houston here may wear down this Red Bulls club some.

Houston Dynamo
In Week 14 MLS play on Saturday, the Houston Dynamo (3-2-3 at Home, 12 GF-11 GA) tied with expansion NYCFC, 1-1, as Will Bruin scored at the 18-minute mark before Spaniard David Villa (PK) put home the equalizer in the 1st Half for NYCFC in the only game in the MLS of Saturday’s 7 to go Under the posted Total of 2½. On Offense, the Dynamo are led by leading-scorer Giles Barnes (6 goals), Will Bruin (5 goals), Ricardo Clark (2 goals), Nathan Sturgis (1 goal), Raúl Rodríguez (1 goal) and Óscar Boniek García (1 goal), while the defense is held down by midfielder Brad Davis, Defender DaMarcus Beasley and GK Tyler Deric (39 Saves, 17 Goals Conceded), among others. This Houston team will have trouble making  the postseason from the Western Conference the way they have been playing and this team’s numbers speak of an equator-like mediocrity (4-5-5, 17 GF-17 GA, 0 GD), and Saturday’s 1-1 Draw is a microcosm of that statistical reality, and this game could very well end 1-1 or 2-2 or 0-0 and keep the Dynamo dead level still, save for the one less Win (4) than the Draws and Losses (5) headed in here on Friday evening.

Current Form, Series Trends, Conclusions
Lifetime in MLS play, the Red Bulls (Current Form: DDLWDL—Sounders) are 11-10-4 (40 GF-24 GA) against the Dynamo and an impressive 3-6-3 (19 GF-17 GA) here in Houston (Current Form: DDLWDL), and the last two time that these two teams played here the game has ended in a 2-2 Draw (2014, 2013). The Red Bulls are undefeated against Houston in the L3 meetings in this series (2-1-0, 7 GF-2 GA) with scorelines of NYRB 1-0 HOU, HOU 2-2 NYRB and NYRB 4-0. With the Red Bulls probably a little leggy from playing back-to-back Road games against the Western Conference and going on just 4 full days (M-Tu-W-Th) of rest, and the Dynamo pretty quiet on the offensive end, the Under 2½ seems to be a low-level play with the guest Red Bulls also worth a look with the nice plus (+160, BetBright). But in terms of logical recommendations with some potential value, placing soccer picks on a third straight Draw between these two teams here at BBVA Compass Stadium seems worth a small shot, but a very small one.

Predicted Final Score: Dynamo 1 Red Bulls 1
