After a profitable 4-1-1 week here in our weekly MLS column in Week 12—including a nice +230 Draw pick (Crew-Red Bulls) to start the weekend off—let’s aim for that elusive perfect week again with a triad of selections from the big professional soccer league in the US including backing the oddsmakers’ MLS Cup favorites, Toronto FC at Home on Friday as well as a couple of other Home favorites on Saturday and Sunday for MLS Week 12. Put on your red shoes and dance the blues.

Friday, May 26, 2017Columbus Crew SC vs Toronto FCBMO Field · Toronto, Ontario · 7 pm ET

Toronto FC (7-5-1, 21 GF-12 GA) welcome the Crew (6-1-6, 20 GF-19 GA) to Toronto Friday night in what could be a high-scoring MLS Week 13 fixture. A look at the L5 meetings in this Eastern Conference series reveals the Home club 2-2-1 with 3 consecutive Overs having been played while a deeper handicapping dive shows Columbus (2-0-4, 7 GF-10 GA on Road) is a respectable 4-6-3 (14 GF-14 GA) at Toronto in MLS play, although this may be as good as Toronto FC has ever been while the Crew have been better.

With the Reds at Home, in such good Form and coming off a Draw in Week 12, expect TFC to find a way to win in what could be a high-scoring affair depending on when that first goal is scored. With Kamara, Justin Meram (6 goals) and Federico Higuaín (4 goals), the Crew have a decent attack and often are forced to try to outscore opponents. Last week, Columbus lost 2-1 at New England while Coach Greg Vanney, 3-goal scorer Tosaint Ricketts, captain Bob Bradley and the host Reds are coming off that aforementioned 1-1 Draw at RBNY, earning them a valuable point when sub Benoit Cheyrou equalized with 20 minutes to play.

Saturday, May 27, 2017Orlando City vs Minnesota UnitedTCF Bank Stadium · Minneapolis · 5 pm ET

Orlando City (6-2-4, 14 GF -17 GA) head north to The Land Of 10,000 Lakes and One Purple Musical Legend to face Christian Ramirez (7 goals), Kevin Molino (5 goals) and the expansion Minnesota United FC (3-2-7, 18 GF-30 GA) Saturday night in an inter-conference MLS fixture from TCF Bank Stadium and the first meeting between a brand new club and a three-year-old one. OCSC is coming off an embarrassing 3-0 Home loss to NYCFC in Week 13 in which the Lions’ Cyle Larin (7 goals) missed a PK while MNUFC (80/1 to win MLS Cup, Intertops, down from 150/1 just a week ago) matches averaging 4.00 gpg and this team is coming off respectable 2-1 Week 12 loss in Minnesota to the LA Galaxy. Backing the Over at 2½ (-167, Intertops) seems smart as does taking a shot on GK Joe Bendik and angry 4th-place dogs OCSC (1-1-3, 4 GF-10 GA Road) who really need to start winning on the Road.

Philadelphia Union vs Real Salt LakeRio Tinto Stadium · Sandy, Utah · 5 pm ET

Yura Movsisyan (4 goals), Albert Rusnák (3 goals) and Real Salt Lake (3-2-8, 11 GF-24 GA) play host to CJ Sapong (8 goals) and the suddenly warming Union (33/1 to win MLS Cup, Intertops) on Saturday night (MLS LIVE, CSN-NE, KMYU) in the Beehive State where possession of Coca-Cola can get you a stern talking to. Although Roland Alberg 92 goals) and the Union have never won in Salt Lake City (0-2-2, 6 GF-10 GA)—they’ve Drawn two straight—and will be traveling 2 Time Zones east to west from EDT to MDT, this seems like a good spot to take a chance on the hot (W3) Road Underdogs against a struggling RSL (100/1 to win MLS Cup, Intertops) and veteran GK Nick Rimando (below) side in this inter-conference series. A glance at the L5 in this MLS series shows (PHI 1-2 RSL, RSL 3-3 PHI, PHI 2-2 RSL, RSL 2-2 PHI, PHI 0-0 RSL) shows four profitable Draws and four straight Overs in matches averaging 5.0 gpg. With six Draws in the L8 meetings and the Union (1-2-2, 6 GF-4 GA on Road) playing so well, this fits the Draw mold and we might as well stay on the Over train with that streak and series goal average.
