Daniil Medvedev (5) vs Rafael Nadal (2)
Daniil Medvedev continued his quest for a first Grand Slam title at the US Open on Friday after a 7-6(5), 6-4, 6-3 win over Grigor Dimitrov in two hours and 38 minutes. The 23-year-old has been playing the best tennis on tour this summer with an incredible 20-2 record at the US Open series. Medvedev is currently on a 12-match winning streak and is trying to become the first Russian man to lift the trophy at Flushing Meadows since Marat Safin in 2000.
Next up for Daniil is three-time US Open champion Rafael Nadal, who beat Matteo Berrettini in straight-sets to reach the final at Flushing Meadows for the fifth time in his career. The No.2 seed didn’t face a single break point and won 90.24% of his first-serve points in one of his best performances of the season. Adding to this, Berrettini couldn’t find a solution to Nadal’s solid baseline game, ending the match with 44 unforced errors to just 18 from the Spaniard.
This will be the second meeting between these two players on the ATP Tour. Nadal leads 1-0 in their head-to-head after a 6-3, 6-0 victory against the Russian at the Rogers Cup final a few weeks ago.
Looking now at the odds for this contest, the sportsbooks are expecting a straightforward win from Nadal with the Spaniard as the heavy favorite at -525 with 5Dimes. Medvedev can’t stop winning but this will be a very difficult match for the Russian. Nadal will push Daniil to the limit and exploit Medvedev’s fatigue after playing so many matches in the last month. With this in mind, our suggestion is for you to add Nadal’s spread to your betting picks as the best approach for this final.
