The MLS season is down to its last two weeks, and for clubs such as the Seattle Sounders, DC United and Real Salt Lake, wins are still desperately needed with only six clubs in each conference making the playoffs.

But a deeper introspect reveals that those numbers were carved when Sebastian Giovinco (12 goals) and Altidore were really buzzing and when TFC (LLWLWL) cared and when DCU (56 GF/49 GA) was completing its new stadium, without a centerpiece DP star such as Rooney.

TFC 2-4-9 on road (1 road goal L3 games)

TFC hasn’t scored a road goal since Aug. 18th (59th minute at SJ)

TFC 2-0-4 L6 road, shut out 2 straight (RBNY 2-0 TFC, PORT 2-0 TFC)

This DC United team (DWDWWW) has momentum, a new pitch, a great coach and scorers such as Darren Mattocks (10 goals), Luciano Acosta (9 goals), Yamil Asad (9 goals) and Rooney, but, sitting in 6th place in the Eastern Conference with 44 points — just 1 point ahead of the 7th-place Montréal Impact (43) — ”the fear” may be the biggest element in this handicap and pick and a reason the guys that bet soccer on a Monday morning are slowly moving the line up (to as high as -160 offshore, Bovada) for this midweek affair from the DMV.

PREDICTED FINAL SCORE: DC United 2, Toronto FC 1

New England Revolution (9-11-12) at Real Salt Lake (13-7-12)

Thursday, 9 p.m. ET (ESPN+)

Free MLS Picks: Real Salt Lake ML; Under 3½ -113

Best Lines Offered: Pinnacle; Bookmaker

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3411429, "sportsbooksIds":[238,93,1096,180,1275], "LineTypeId":2, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

Fighting for their postseason lives in 6th place just 1 point ahead of the LA Galaxy (45 points), Real Salt Lake (46 points) needs a “W” and all 3 points here and Herr Schedülemacher — he’s German — has obliged the hosts with Cristian Penilla (12 goals), Teal Bunbury (11 goals), Diego Fagundez (8 goals) and the New England Revolution heading to suburban Salt Lake City to play in a fixture that will start at 9 p.m. (and end around 11 p.m.) in their Eastern Time Zone body clocks.

REVOLUTION 1-2-6 L9 road games (7 GF/15 GA)

REVOLUTION 2-6-8 on road; last road win was Sept. 5 at NYCFC (1-0)

REVOLUTION last road game scoring 2 or more goals was Aug. 4 (OCSC 3-3 NE)

Looking at the L5 meetings in this interconference series (NE 4-0 RSL, RSL 0-0 NE, NE 4-0 RSL, RSL 2-1 NE, NE 1-2 RSL), we see the two teams both 2-1-2 with at least 3 goals scored in 4 of the 5 meetings.
