Marco Asensio Could Miss Most Of Next Season

Real Madrid released a short statement on their website today:

“After test carried out on our player Marco Asensio by the Real Madrid Medical Services he has been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and the external meniscus of his left knee. The player will be surgically operated on in the next few days.”

Real Madrid trailed 2-0 against Arsenal courtesy of goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang before Asensio made it 2-1 and Gareth Bale tied the game to force penalties. Los Blancos won the penalty shootout 3-2.

According to reports in Spain, Asensio could miss up to nine months, which would seriously hinder his development and possibly Real Madrid’s too.

Manager Zinedine Zidane has stated repeatedly that Real Madrid is trying to release Welsh winger Gareth Bale and although he said that “nothing has changed” after Bale scored against Arsenal, Asensio’s injury could force the Spanish giants to reconsider their position.

Bale had offers to join Jiangsu Suning and Beijing Guoan in China but as reported by Matt Law of The Telegraph, the teams would have to pay more than £1 million per week if they want Bale to join them.
