The Manchester derby features this weekend when the Premier League enters round 10. Which side will enjoy bragging rights when all is said and done? Here’s our soccer betting preview.

Manchester United Re-Join Ranks of Title Contenders
Since Sir Alex Fergusson’s departure, Manchester United were kept out of the ranks of title contenders. The David Moyes era was a right flop and Van Gaal’s first term as head coach came with some struggles, despite finishing inside the Top 4.

At the start of this season, there wasn’t a real sense of the Red Devils as title contenders either – to most soccer bettors they were an afterthought, after pre-season faves Chelsea and Manchester City and, to some extent, perennial also-rans Arsenal. Manchester were fourth overall faves at +500 soccer odds or thereabouts depending on your sportsbook of choice.

Nine rounds into the season and it’s safe to say that it has been a mixed bag of surprises from Chelsea’s appalling fall from grace to the occasional Manchester City maddening gaff and the improbable rise of West Ham United and Leicester City’s, amongst other things. Nobody is suggesting the Hammers or the Foxes are going to win the title (or are they?), but what these rather unexpected plot twists in the Premier League narrative mean in simple terms: there is no outright dominant side amongst the popular, established household names.

It’s virtually a wide open race for the title, in which Manchester United have a real shot to emerge victorious – even though their post-Fergusson identity is still not quite clear. Manchester United enjoyed a brief stint at the top of the table already this season before buggering it up behind a 3-0 loss to Arsenal at the Emirates.

Last weekend, however, they did rebound nicely with a 3-0 win at Everton, which marked their first win at Goodison Park since October 2011 when they defeated the Toffees 1-0. In fact, the Red Devils had been on the losing side of that head-to-head in four of the last six meetings both home and away.

Following the away win to Everton, the Red Devils rescued the point in their Champions League campaign with a come-from-behind draw at CSKA Moscow. It wasn’t the commanding performance we saw at Goodison Park, but it was a workman’s like effort which revives their European campaign a touch and that should send them into the weekend’s clash with a measure of optimism.

Manchester City Hot Faves In Title Race
Early on in the season when it became apparent that Chelsea’s struggles this term were for real, Man City leapfrogged into top spot on the Premier League futures board. If you bought into the Sky Blues at their pre-season price tag of +290 soccer odds to win the title or thereabouts depending on your preferred online sports betting shop, you’re probably patting yourself on the back.  They are now the -120 favorites to win. Sure to stay on the short side of EVEN money for the foreseeable.

Man City briefly fell off their perch at the top of the table behind a two-game losing streak that seemed to come out of nowhere. Losing to West Ham United 2-1 at home and the Tottenham Hotspurs 4-1 on the road took the wind out of their sails. But credit to them for bouncing back in emphatic fashion with a 6-1 walloping of Newcastle United and a 5-1 walloping of AFC Bournemouth. Flanking either side of those Premier League wins are back-to-back Champions League successes – a 2-1 win over Borussia M’gladbach and a 2-1 win over Sevilla (home).

Soccer Betting Verdict: As it is, the odds makers roll out a rather tight soccer betting line on this game with Man United priced at +150 to win outright and Man City slightly longer at +170 soccer odds. In spite of the soccer odds, we can’t help but think the Citizens have the slight advantage over the Red Devils in this packed week of soccer action. Citizens played Sevilla at home while the Red Devils made the long trek to Moscow earlier this week, after a short trip to Liverpool and a date with Everton. Plus, the Citizens are coming off a winning effort while the Red Devils very nearly lost in the Russian capital. Take Man City at +170 soccer odds to win outright at the Old Trafford on your soccer picks.
