Premiership leader Man City has an amazing opportunity to clinch the title in style by beating Man Utd at The Etihad on Saturday. Fans would descend into utter euphoria if their team could vanquish its fiercest rival, seize the title with six games to spare and begin the celebrations in the streets of Manchester. Man City has been absolutely dominant in the EPL this season and there could be no sweeter way for it to be crowned champion. Man Utd manager Jose Mourinho will be desperate to prevent that from happening, and his battle-hardened troops will make life difficult for Man City. But the Citizens have been in imperious form of late, and they should be able to get the job done.

Man City is the clear favorite to win this game, best priced at -120 with Pinnacle, while BetOnline is offering -123 and Bookmaker has -125. The draw is +287 with Pinnacle and Man Utd is the +361 outsider. That is the longest set of odds you will ever see on Man Utd in a Premiership season, and it reflects the magnificent level of performance Man City has maintained throughout the course of the year. It is on course to break the record for the most EPL points ever accrued, and it will have scored more goals than any other Premiership team in history.

It currently leads Man Utd by 16 points, which is pretty awe-inspiring in a league as competitive as the Premiership. But Man City deserves it as it has been streets ahead of its rivals offensively and tactically all season. Pep Guardiola has fostered a spectacular brand of soccer and it is a joy to behold. Kevin De Bruyne, the favorite to win Player of the Year, and David Silva have become deep-lying playmakers, and they conduct an exquisite orchestra. Going forward, Sergio Aguero, Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus have been full of pace, dynamism and incision, and Man City has simply blown teams away.

Mourinho has spent almost as much money on his squad as Guardiola, but the results have not been as impressive. If Man Utd finishes second, it will be its best EPL season in many years, but fans will demand more. It has lost too many games that were there for the taking, offensively it has been too frequently limp and there have been defensive lapses in concentration that are uncharacteristic of Mourinho teams. When Man Utd and Man City met at Old Trafford earlier this season, it finished 2-1 to Man City thanks to goals from Silva and Nicolas Otamendi. The Argentinean defender is just one of many City players to enjoy a strong upturn in form under Guardiola, while some Man Utd players look mutinous under Mourinho.

If Man City could beat Utd at Old Trafford, it can certainly do so at The Etihad, and -120 looks very attractive. It is playing with enormous confidence at present after twice thrashing Arsenal and securing convincing victories against the likes of Everton and Chelsea. It will probably be without Aguero at the weekend, but Gabriel, Sane, Sterling, De Bruyne and Silva have enough skill and dynamism to slice through the Man Utd defense with regularity. Man City has won 14, drawn one and lost zero games at home this season, while Man Utd has already lost four times on the road, so the trends are certainly in the Citizens’ favor. These players will never get such a tantalizing opportunity to win the league against their fiercest rivals, so they will be fired up and they should be able to pull it off.
