Lions vs. Tiger-Cats Prediction, Expert Picks & Odds: Adams and Passing Game to Roar on the Road

With Vernon Adams Jr., the CFL Most Outstanding Player favorite, leading the way, the Lions' passing game is poised to light up a struggling Tiger-Cats defense.

Lions, Tiger-Cats, Vernon Adams Jr., oh my!

That's how the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (0-4) faithful will likely feel when the BC Lions (3-1) step onto Tim Hortons Field on Sunday at 7 p.m. ET (TSN/RDS, CFL+), and why in our Lions vs. Tiger-Cats prediction, we're expecting another significant game from Adams.

The BC Lions are a 4.5-point road favorite against the winless Tiger-Cats, and Hamilton will have its hands full trying to slow down Adams, the CFL Most Outstanding Player odds favorite, and the team's passing attack.

A strong outing from BC could put the team neck and neck with the Montreal Alouettes in the Grey Cup odds.

Vernon Adams Jr. Over 320.5 passing yards ⭐⭐⭐⭐

It's like Adams is back at Eastern Washington cooking every secondary that dares to line up against his plethora of talented receivers. (Fun fact: Cooper Kupp put up over 3,000 receiving yards and 37 TDs in two seasons with Adams as his QB at EWU.)

While we're just a few games into the CFL season, it's pretty clear that Adams is the league's best quarterback right now. After leading the league in passing yards last season with 4,769, he's somehow become even better in his second full season as Rick Campbell's starting QB.

Adams has been aggressive while letting it rip downfield and trusting his receivers to make plays. And that's been a pretty damn good game plan for my money. Alexander Hollins leads the league in receiving yards (457) with Justin McInnis sitting fifth (338).

Even without All-Star Keon Hatcher, Adams has been getting the most out of whoever is on the field with him. Ayden Eberhardt and Jevon Cottoy were his leading receivers Last week against the Edmonton Elks.

Hamilton's secondary simply isn't ready for Adams and this pass-catching group. The Tiger-Cats are allowing the most points per game in the CFL (31.2), the fourth-most passing yards (281.2), and the fourth-highest QB rating (106.2). Adams has already thrown for a league-leading 1,369 yards over four games while averaging 342.2 per game.

He's gone Over 320.5 yards in three of four games, and BC has leaned into its air-raid approach while asking him to throw 29-plus times in every contest. If he does throw for at least 321 for the third straight matchup, a $10 bet will pay an $8.47 profit.

Lions vs. Tiger-Cats first team to score

Lions

The two most significant reasons I'm backing BC to score first are because of Adams' tendency to push the ball deep, and the Lions boasting one of the CFL's best kickers. BC clearly wants to throw the rock all around the yard, and the team possesses the talent to do that with both Hollins and McInnis being complete mismatches. Both can win deep and are averaging over 16 yards per catch.

So best-case scenario, Adams leads his team to a quick score thanks to BC's ability to hit significant plays over the top. But even if they don't get in the end zone first, I love their chances of putting up points regardless. Kicker Sean Whyte is one of the best out there, and he's 29-for-32 on 40-plus-yard kicks (90.6%) dating back to last season.

While these odds are short, a $10 winning bet still pays a $6.99 profit.
