With the first seven events of the 2017 NASCAR Monster Energy Cup series season in the books heading into the first break on the schedule, it is the perfect time to make some predictions as to which drivers offer the best value in their futures odds to win this year’s title.

NASCAR shook things up this season with a new title sponsor for the Cup series as well as a new set of rules for its racing format, and the result has been a wild first two months. A pair of recent champions have been shut out, while two of the sport’s top young guns have raced well enough to hold down the top two spots in the current point standings. The following is a look at my top valued favorite, contender and long shot to win this season’s Monster Energy Cup title based on updated future odds as provided by 5Dimes.

Top Valued Favorite

Even with the likes of veterans Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch and Jimmie Johnson in the way as the last three Cup series champions, I am jumping on Kyle Larson’s bandwagon as the top favorite to continue his incredible early run all the way through Homestead-Miami in late November to win this season’s points title. Following four second-place finishes to go along with his first career Cup series win at Fontana in just seven events, Larson has jumped all the way to the top of the NASCAR futures list as a +650 favorite along with Harvick to win the title. Behind the wheel of the No. 42 Chevrolet, he has really come into his own in his fourth full-time season racing at this level.

Top Valued Contender

I am sticking with NASCAR’s youth movement when it comes to my top-valued contender with Chase Elliott at +1100 odds to win the 2017 title. He is in just his second season as the full-time driver of the famed No. 24 Chevrolet, and through his first seven events he is second to Larson in the standings with 298 total points. Elliott is still looking for his first Cup series win, but you get the feeling that the victories are going to come in bunches once he does make that first trip to the Winner’s Circle. He has come close in his first seven events with three finishes inside the top five.

Top Valued Long Shot

Picking a long shot to win a particular race is a reach, so you are really going way out on a limb to pick one to win a season-long racing title. That being said, there is still some value in Kurt Busch at +2300 betting odds simply because he won the Daytona 500. One victory should be good enough to quality the No. 41 Ford for this season’s playoffs, and once you make it into the field of 16 for the final 10 races of the year anything can happen. Busch is also a veteran driver with more than enough skill to know how to stay right in the mix when his car is running strong.

Futures Odds For Other Notable Drivers

As mentioned, Harvick joins Larson as the top two favorites to win the 2017 Cup Series title at +650 odds. Brad Keselowski is off to a strong start with two victories this year and he has been listed as a +725 second-favorite to add a second career racing title to his resume. Both Joey Logano and Kyle Busch are looking for their first victory of the year as +750 third-favorites on the list. Johnson got his season back on track with a victory last Sunday at Texas, and he joins Martin Truex Jr. at +875 betting odds to successfully defend his 2016 Cup series title.
