Last Weekend: A Recap
We were pretty spot on with our La Liga picks last weekend.
Barcelona cruised to a 4-0 win over Espanyol at home, with Pedro netting a brace and Messi adding yet another goal to his already ridiculous tally. We will then get to see Malaga try to do battle with the Mighty Barca as well. Real Madrid survived a thriller to win 4-3 against Real Sociedad, while Atletico couldn't get all three points against Mallorca.
Our other two selections (home wins for Sevilla and Celta Vigo) also ended up coming through. Hopefully we can be similarly prophetic this weekend!
Saturday, January 12th
Real Madrid takes to the pitch and will be facing off against Osasuna away from home. All signs are pointing towards a straightforward win for Los Blancos, considering Osasuna is in last place and have scored just 14 goals total in 18 league matches.
The La Liga odds boards currently favor Ronaldo and Co. at 5/12 to win. Ronaldo has 26 goals and three assists in 18 domestic appearances this season – he has four goals over his last four matches.
The most competitive match on Saturday should involve Valencia and Sevilla. The Goats have been solid on their own pitch, losing only one of their nine matches there. Sevilla meanwhile has been very poor away from home, winning just one time in nine tries with a goal differential of minus-seven.
Roberto Soldado versus Alvaro Negredo. Who makes the biggest difference this weekend?
Also on tap are matches between Real Valladolid and Mallorca and Espanyol and Celta Vigo. There we like Valladolid (20/21 to win) and Celta Vigo (12/5) to get the three points in their respective matches. We really like what Iago Aspas (eight league goals) has done for The Sky Blues this term, and for that reason they get the nod for our La Liga betting selection on Saturday.
Sunday, January 13th
The standout tie, by a wide margin, is the showdown between Malaga and Barcelona. Malaga has picked up right where they left off from last season and currently reside in fourth place.
The Anchovies will be at home, and that's always helpful as they've totaled 23 goals in nine matches at La Rosaleda this season. But this is Barcelona we're talking about, a team that's a perfect 9-0-0 away from home with 32 goals scored and 12 goals against. There's a reason the Catalans are classified as 2/5 favorites on the football odds board.
Real Betis will play host to Levante in what should be another tremendous game. These two outfits occupy the fifth and sixth spots in the standings at the moment, but it's Betis (20/23) that gets the favourites tag this weekend.
Elsewhere, we see that Atletico Madrid (2/7) will entertain Real Zaragoza in hopes they can rebound and put some more pressure on Real. Also, Real Sociedad (5/7) and Deportivo will battle it out inside Estadio Anoeta.
The biggest underdog of the day is Zaragoza, whom are priced all the way up at 17/2. Why so high? Atletico's spotless record at home probably has something to do with it – they've won all nine matches and have a goal differential of plus-22.
La Liga tips: more of a challenge for Barcelona but still three points, cruise control for Real Madrid against bottom-ranked Osasuna, a righting of the ship for Atletico, and a surprise victory for Celta Vigo
