Real Madrid took a huge step towards the Champions League semi-finals with a 3-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday. Now, with La Liga commitments looming on the weekend’s soccer betting menu, they’ll attempt to take a positive step forward in the title race as well.

Real Revenge
Robert Lewandowski singlehandedly thumped Real Madrid 4-0 in the first leg of their semi-final tie last year, all but ensuring Borussia Dortmund’s place in the prestigious European final.

Yesterday however Real Madrid flipped the script. It was their turn to exact revenge when the pair met in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal tie on Wednesday at Santiago Bernabeu as they inflicted a 3-0 defeat on an underwhelming Borussia Dortmund side to advance into pole position for a semi-final berth.

The comprehensive victory marked Real Madrid’s second big win this week following a 5-0 disembowelling of Rayo Vallecano at the weekend. And the victory couldn’t have come at a better time, so desperately were they in need of an ego boost after losing El Classico a fortnight ago and then succumbing to a 2-1 defeat to Sevilla three days later.  The back-to-back defeats were bad and costly as Real Madrid lost their grip on top spot, plummeting down to third place in the table behind Atleti and Barcelona.

Fortunately, they are only three points behind city rivals Atleti and just two points behind Barcelona. What’s more, as bad as those results were they don’t point to a drop off in form. Simply put, they had a bad week is all and their back-to-back wins this week are proof positive of that.

With renewed vigour and swelling confidence Real Madrid can turn to their upcoming fixture against Real Sociedad with measured optimism. Indeed, sportsbooks are on side, listing Los Blancos as the -200 favourites on the road to win outright. A win that would go a ways towards their potential return to the top of the table down the stretch, if not winning the title which is currently matched at +250 futures betting odds at Bet365.

Real Sociedad in play for Top 4
Despite some inconsistencies on form over the last few months Real Sociedad are still in play for a Top 4 finish, a happenstance that is matched on +750 futures betting odds at Bet365.

Currently sat pretty in sixth place on 50 points and a 14-8-9 record through 31 laps, Real Sociedad are just six points behind Athletic Club in fourth place. Sevilla, currently fifth, are dead even on 50 points and on a 14-8-9 mark going into La Liga week 32 betting.

Unquestionably, Real Sociedad have incentive to win this match over and above home advantage. But given the quality of their opponents they are deemed huge puppies for the upset at +500 soccer odds at Bet365, a market stance underscored by a head-to-head that leans heavily towards the visitors and that includes a recent 5-1 defeat to Los Blancos at the Bernabeu.

That said Real Sociedad’s home record is a source of inspiration of late. They’ve lost only one of their last six home fixtures in Primera action as well just one in their last six across all competitions. What’s even more impressive is the fact that they not only held Barcelona to a 1-1 draw in Copa Del Rey action but also beat Barcelona 3-1 in Primera action at the Anoeta during this stretch.

Certainly, given this positive run of form at home and especially the commendable accounts against Barcelona, La Real fans have room for optimism.  It suggest that they shouldn’t be dismissed out of hand entirely.

Soccer Betting Verdict: Despite their rather hefty soccer odds, La Real are dangerous floaters in La Liga. They’ve been underestimated on several occasions before only to come up trumps. Soccer bettors would do well to heed this fact before weighing in on this match with their soccer picks. It’s quite possible La Real would deliver a shocker in the form of the upset win at +500 or the draw at +333 soccer odds.

Having said that it’s still Real Madrid’s match to win or lose as their fancied -200 soccer odds would suggest. It’s also an important win towards redlining their title credentials, which are within touching distance at +250 futures odd. Given their recent form this week, we feel they should come through at the expense of the hosts.
