We’re off to Spain to win some money money money and with your Humble Handicapper’s recent run of good form and very good results, you’d be crazy to bet against him especially with a match like this one when Atlético Madrid take on Espanyol.

Let's have a look at the table before we get down to the nitty-gritty of this match. Athletic Madrid are second in the table on 64 points at the 27 games stage, only three points behind league leaders Real Madrid and just one point ahead of reigning champions Barcelona. This is as good a time as any to let you know that the best soccer odds on Real Madrid winning the Spanish top flight are 4/1 and Atletico Madrid winning is at 9/1. The odds-on Barcelona regaining the trophy are still 9/2 and then if you want to know how much a three horse race the Spanish top flight is you should know that fourth place Athletic Bilbao, who currently sit on fourth on 51 points, are 299/1 to win the Spanish top flight.

Espanyol currently sit ninth in the league if on 36 points, that's 31 off the top of the table and 28 behind Atletico Madrid. The odds-on them winning the Spanish top-flight are too high to bother with and too unlikely to waste money on.

Enough with the table …WHERE‘S THE MONEY MIKE?

Looking at current form both sides have three victories from their last five games, a draw and one defeat. That would suggest everything is pretty much even Stevens especially as Espanyol have one victory and one draw in their last two away games and Madrid have one victory and one draw from their last two home games.

This is pretty much the best time to tell you what the best soccer odds on the basics have Atletico Madrid winning at 1/3 while Espanyol taking all three-point is at 11/1 and the draw is at 9/2.

To give you a bit more of an idea who the bookies like in this game you should know that Madrid winning both halves is available at 4/5 and the away side Espanyol,  taking the game on the 45 and the 90 is available at 22/1.

Another way of looking at this is to say the shortest correct score odds offered by the sports books are for a Madrid victory of 2-0 at 5/1. While the shortest correct score odds on an Espanyol victory (at 1-0) are at 28/1.

Looking at history between the two sides in four of the last five out encounters when the sides meet, the home side has taken the spoils the only exception to this was back in September 2012 when Madrid went away and came back with all three points and 1-0 scoreline. You could do a lot worse than back a 1-0 again as the last three games have all ended by that exact score, twice for Madrid and once for Espanyol. In fact the odds on 1-0 to Madrid are 6/1 and the best soccer odds your Humble Handicapper can find on Espanyol winning by the same score are above (28/1).

But we've seen Madrid score a lot of goals this season but conceded 21 goals all season, almost 1 per game, so your Humble Handicapper is going to be generous and give Espanyol a goal but the victory stays with Madrid.

Prediction: Madrid win 2-1 available at best soccer odds of 9/1 with Ladbrokes.
