Keeneland race track will be gone in a flash for this meet, but Saturday will have six strong stakes races and we have free picks for each one.
As promised, we are back at Keeneland, who saw it’s spring meet wiped out and received permission to have five days of racing in the heat of the summer for the first time ever. They are doing it up big time with six stakes races and we have free horse racing picks for each and every one.
FS1 will no doubt have most of the action for you to watch on Saturday, which is good news. Plus, we will attempt to build on Thursday’s success against the horse racing odds as we had eight exact or better winners and another that cashed.
Keeneland Race: 4
Post Time: 2:45 EDT
Surface: Turf Distance: 1 Mile
Morning Line Favorite at Intertops: #4 Alms
Backstretch News: The heavy action starts with the Grade 3, $150,000 Appalachian Stakes. Alms is the 6/5 choice and has won two of three at eight furlongs and her trainer, M. Stidham is 5-3-3 (WPS) in his past 17 starts. Also, the main speed in this one.
The main competition will come from Walk In Marrakesh and jockey J. Ortiz is cashing tickets with regularity. Evil Lyn fits next, with one of our favorite pairings, T. Gaffalione (rider) and N.Maker (trainer).
Horse Racing Picks: 1) #4 Alms 2) #6 Walk In Marrakesh 3) #3 Evil Lyn
Longshot Pick: #3 Evil Lyn (6-1 odds)
Keeneland Race: 5
Post Time: 3:18 EDT
Surface: Dirt Distance: 7 Furlongs
Morning Line Favorite at Intertops: #5 Guarana
Backstretch News: By almost any measure, chalky 1/1 favorite Guarana is the pick for the $250,000 Grade 1 Madison Stakes. Guarana, a winner in four of five career starts, faces eight other fillies and mares. Trainer C. Brown is 9-6-4 (WPS) in 28 attempts with horses with far less talent than #5, who also delivers on the Beyer Speed Figures at 96-95-92.
Mia Mischief and Bell’s the One appear the main threats. MM is 2-2 (WP) in six attempts at about this distance and BtO had the third-finest workout among 94 horses on June 20. Longshot bettors, Sally’s Curlin should draw your interest.
Horse Racing Picks: 1) #5 Guarana 2) #7 Mia Mischief 3) #8 Bell’s the One
Longshot Pick: #3 Sally’s Curlin (10-1)
Keeneland Race: 6
Post Time: 3:51 EDT
Surface: Turf Distance: 5 ½ Furlongs
Morning Line Favorite at Intertops: #2 Wildman Jack and #8 Bound for Nowhere
Backstretch News: We would be at all shocked if the co-favorites the G-2 $150,000 Shakertown Stakes are not on the Keeneland race scoreboard. Wildman Jack is from out west and has been shipped and performed well before and is a superb 3-2-1 (WPS) in his last half dozen sprints.
We don’t think Bound for Nowhere isn’t and are choosing him as a proven commodity and having two triple-digit Beyer’s. However, we like a mild upset with Texas Wedge, who is realistically one of six horses that can win and he’s won the last two with jockey F. Prat riding. TW is 4-1-1 in eight shots.
Horse Racing Picks: 1) #9 Texas Wedge 2) #8 Bound for Nowhere 3) #2 Wildman Jack
Longshot Pick: #7 Fast Boat (8-1)
Keeneland Race: 7
Post Time: 4:24 EDT
Surface: Dirt Distance: 1 1/16 Miles
Morning Line Favorite at Intertops: #2 Venetian Harbor
Backstretch News: This is the second of three Grade 1 races, the $400,000 Ashland Stakes. Speech dropped out of Friday’s stakes race thinking Swiss Skydiver was going to be her main opponent, but several things changed and she will find another tough customer is 6/5 favorite Venetian Harbor.
#2 arrives off two nearly flawless workouts and has the top Beyer’s in the Ashland. Speech will no doubt press VH, but come up short. Bonny South is 3-for-3 at route races and also had a sharp workout.
Horse Racing Picks: 1) #2 Venetian Harbor 2) #6 Speech 3) #3 Bonny South
Longshot Pick: #5 Tonalist’s Shape (6-1)
Keeneland Race: 8
Post Time: 4:57 EDT
Surface: Turf Distance: 1 1/16 Mile
Morning Line Favorite at Intertops: #4 Raging Fall
Backstretch News: Raging Fall was defeated by Toinette 26 months ago in the Edgewood Stakes. Toinette has won three of four and eight of 12 lifetime.
Raging Fall is the defending champ of the G-1 $350,000 Jenny Wiley Stakes and if she has her A-Game, little doubt #4 can exact revenge. Not an easy call for third between Juliet Foxtrot and Jolie Olimpica, nonetheless, we have concerns JO can handle the added distance.
Horse Racing Picks: 1) #4 Raging Fall 2) #8 Toinette 3) #2 Juliet Foxtrot
Longshot Pick: #2 Juliet Foxtrot (8-1)
Keeneland Race: 9
Post Time: 5:30 EDT
Surface: Dirt Distance: 1 1/8 miles
Morning Line Favorite at Intertops: #7 Swiss Skydiver
Backstretch News: With Swiss Skydiver already safely in the Kentucky Oaks for the girls, her owner and trainer want to see if she can compete with the boys in the $600,000 Blue Grass Stakes. #7 is the favorite and is just the second filly to run this race in 95 previous outings and the first since 1944. In a normal year, this wouldn’t happen but SS is the real deal and can showcase her talents.
Though we believe the fave can win, we have sided with Rushie for that honor, who is of a pair of Top 2 workouts, is improving (88-89-97), and was a solid third in the Santa Anita Derby. Art Collector had a 100-speed rating the last time out and his pedigree suggests the distance is not an issue.
Horse Racing Picks: 1) #10 Rushie 2) #7 Swiss Skydiver 3) #3 Art Collector
Longshot Pick: #1 Shivaree (8-1)
See you back here Sunday with more racing, Good Luck!
