The KBO continues to keep us on the edge of our seats with three more big upsets on Friday. Nothing is certain in the league but we’ll try to find the games with the best chances to win. Here are the top bets in the KBO for Saturday’s action.

LG Twins vs. Samsung Lions

Saturday, July 4, 2020 – 5:00am EST

Probable Pitchers Per MyKBO Website:

  • LG: Lim Chan-gyu (4-2 3.99 ERA)
  • Samsung: Heo Yoon-dong (2-0 3.60 ERA)

The Samsung Lions absolutely lit up Tyler Wilson and the LG Twins on Friday. The Lions defeated the Twins, 9-7 in eight innings. The game was delayed and then called in the 8th inning due to rain.

The Twins will pitch Lim Chan-gyu who is currently 4-2 with a 3.99 ERA on the season. He went 1-0 against Samsung already this season but it wasn’t the prettiest of outings. In that outing, he allowed four runs on seven hits in six innings of work but struck out six and walked just one batter in that game.

Chan-gyu has won two straight games over Hanwha and SK and is coming off a stellar seven-inning performance against SK where he struck out eight and walked one batter. This was the second consecutive game where he struck out eight batters. He looks on point right now.

On the season, he’s striking out 9.5 batters per nine innings and walking 2.3 batters per nine innings. He’s had trouble keeping the ball in the ballpark and is allowing an average of one homer per nine innings this season. While his ERA is 3.99, he has an FIP of 3.78.

He’ll go up against rookie pitcher, Heo Yoon-dong who is somehow 2-0 with a 3.60 ERA. I say somehow because his FIP is currently 6.94, which means he’s been the luckiest pitcher in the KBO this season. He’s struck out 3.1 batters per nine innings and walked almost six batters per nine innings. He’s also been tagged for the home run ball this season.

Yoon-dong is 1-0 against the Twins this season after going five innings and allowing three runs on 80 pitches. In his last three starts, he’s gone five innings and has allowed three runs in two of those three and two runs in the other. He’s not putting together stellar performances.

The LG Twins put up seven runs but allowed nine runs. With the way Chan-gyu has pitched recently, the Lions should struggle to put up runs in this one. I like the Twins on the road to get the job done against Samsung.

LG Twins-130

Kiwoom Heroes vs. KT Wiz

Saturday, July 4, 2020 – 5:00am EST

Probable Pitchers Per MyKBO Website:

  • Kiwoom: Choi Won-tae (4-3 3.68 ERA)
  • KT: William Cuevas (3-2 4.75 ERA)

The KT Wiz upset the Kiwoom Heroes at home, 3-2 in walk-off fashion on Friday. The Kiwoom Heroes came into the game hot offensively but cooled off against KT.

The Heroes will send Choi Won-tae to the mound. He’s 4-3 with a 3.68 ERA and has a win against KT already this season. Won-tae has won his last two starts allowing a  combined two runs in 13 innings pitched. He’s put together three quality starts back-to-back-to-back.

He’s been able to get a solid amount of strikeouts and isn’t walking more than two batters per game started. While his ERA sits at 3.68, he does have an FIP of 4.22. In his start against KT, he went six innings and just 82 pitches while allowing two runs on five hits, including one homer. However, he struck out five and walked none in that start.

For KT, William Cuevas has come off his injury looking solid. He’s now 2-0 since returning into the starting rotation against Hanwha and Lotte. Facing Kiwoom will be a tougher task for Cuevas.

Right before being sidelined with an injury, he faced the Kiwoom Heroes and allowed five runs in 4.1 innings of work off eight hits and two homers. Cuevas looks much better in his first two games but you can’t ignore those numbers in that start.

While his ERA is 4.75, his FIP is better at 4.75. He’s striking out 6.9 batters per nine innings and limited walks to 2.4 per nine innings. Cuevas has always done a solid job limiting hard contact as his batting average of balls in play in his KBO career is .260.

Cuevas had three walks in his last start against the Hanwha Eagles and when he was walking that many batters in a given game, damage was being done.

The Kiwoom Heroes bats already faced Cuevas once this season and enjoyed success. Choi Won-tae of the Heroes enjoyed solid success on the pitching end.

I like Kiwoom to get back to their winning ways on Saturday.

KBO Pick:

Kiwoom Heroes-120

Kia Tigers vs. NC Dinos

Friday, July 3, 2020 – 5:30am EST

Probable Pitchers Per MyKBO Website:

  • Kia: Yang Hyun-jong (5-4 4.67 ERA)
  • NC: Drew Rucinski (6-1 2.38 ERA)

The Kia Tigers seem to have the NC Dinos’ number with another win on Friday. However, it’s unfair for any team when they have to face Drew Gagnon.

The Dinos will face Kia’s Yang Hyun-jong for the first time this season. He’s 5-4 with a 4.67 ERA this year after finishing with a 2.29 ERA last season. Hyun-jong has lost his last two starts to Kiwoom and Samsung but his last start against Kiwoom wasn’t bad.

He allowed two runs on five hits in six innings. He struck out three and walked three on 106 pitches. In the game before that, he allowed eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits and two homers against Samsung.

He’s not what he was last season. He’s striking out 6.8 batters per nine innings and walking 2.7 batters per nine innings. The strikeouts are down one per nine innings and his walks are up one per nine innings in comparison to last season. Currently, his FIP is 4.46.

Drew Rucinski will get the call for the Dinos. He’s been brilliant this season going 6-1 with a 2.38 ERA. He also faced Kia once this season and left with a no-decision after allowing three runs on four hits in six innings. He struck out eight in that game but also walked four.

Rucinski is coming off back-to-back wins against the Doosan Bears and KT Wiz where he allowed a combined three runs in 14 innings. His start against Doosan was ridiculous. He went seven innings, allowing no runs on four hits and struck out six while walking two.

Currently, he’s striking out 8.5 batters per nine innings and walking 2.5 batters per nine innings. His FIP is 3.77, which is a bit high compared to his 2.38 ERA.

Rucisnki has performed at home in his last three starts allowing just two runs in 20 innings.

Rucinski is the type of pitcher that can shut down the Kia offense. The hope is that he can pitch through the 7th inning for the Dinos and helped them get a home win that they desperately need in this series.

KBO Pick:

NC Dinos-156
