SK Wyverns vs. Hanwha Eagles

Saturday, July 25, 2020 – 5:00am EST

Probable Pitchers Per MyKBO Website:

  • SK: Moon Seung-won (2-6 3.86 ERA)
  • Hanwha: Warwick Saupold (5-8 4.67 ERA)

Warwick Saupold has now lost four straight starts after allowing at least four runs in every one of those starts. Saupold looked a lot better in his last start but blew up late against LG.

He’s allowing hits at an abnormal pace but the fact of the matter is, that SK Wyverns offense is really clicking right now. If you recall, Saupold pitched a complete game, two hitter against SK to start the season but he’s not pitching like that right now. Saupold doesn’t strike many batters out and is allowing hard hit balls left and right.

Saupold is still Hanwha’s best pitcher, even during this brutal stretch that he’s fallen into. After all, his FIP is just 4.19 as his batting average of balls in play is currently .337. His strikeouts are down from last year but so are his walks which is solid to know.

In his last start, he pitched into the 8th inning before he was shelled. It seems like the second and third time against a batting order is when Saupold starts to lose command and leave pitches over the zone.

He’ll go up against Moon Seung-won of the SK Wyverns. If you think Saupold’s losing streak is bad, Seung-won is 2-6 with an ERA below 4. He got a no decision in his last outing but faced Hanwha earlier and lost on the road after going seven innings and allowed three runs on six hits.

Seung-won hasn’t allowed more than three runs in a game since May 27 and yet he only has two wins to show for it.

Prediction

I expect Saupold to get comfortable early but falter late. Seung-won has always been great throughout a game. Therefore, I’ll take the under in the first five innings and press my luck on Saupold returning to form. After all, he dominated SK in his first match-up against.

Samsung Lions vs. Kia Tigers

Saturday, July 25, 2020 – 5:00am EST

Probable Pitchers Per MyKBO Website:

  • Samsung: Ben Lively (1-3 4.91 ERA)
  • Kia: Aaron Brooks (5-3 2.49 ERA)

The Lions and Tigers rained out in the first game of the series. The Lions haven’t played since Tuesday while Kia played on Wednesday.

Aaron Brooks will take the mound for the Kia Tigers. He’s 5-3 with a 2.49 EA and a 3.03 FIP on the season. Brooks is coming off back-to-back wins against Doosan and Kiwoom with both wins coming at home. As of late, Brooks has been tremendous at home but is starting to allow plenty of hits. Against Doosan and Kiwoom, Brooks allowed 18 hits in 14.1 innings of work while striking out just six batters and walking one.

Brooks has been able to limit damage as he’s not allowing many homeruns this season. Brooks hasn’t faced Samsung yet this season but has now pitched five straight quality starts for the Tigers.

The Lions will pitch Ben Lively who has returned to action not too long ago. Lively was out for two months before his most recent start against the Lotte Giants. Lively got the win in his return but went just five innings, allowing two runs on five hits. However, he only struck out two batters and walked two.

Lively’s career ERA in the KBO is 4.18 and he only has six quality starts through 14 games started. It’s hard to know exactly how both teams will respond after a long hiatus from the diamond but you’d have to imagine the Lively, who has a 6.05 FIP, will struggle to keep up with Aaron Brooks, who has a much lower FIP.

Prediction

With two imports on the mound, the price for the Kia Tigers and Aaron Brooks is intriguing. Brooks has dominated throughout the entire season and there’s no reason he’ll stop now as he goes up against a pitcher with not nearly the same stuff.

Many ace pitchers have lower lines than normal via our KBO oddsmakers.

Lotte Giants vs. Kiwoom Heroes

Saturday, July 25, 2020 – 5:00am EST

Probable Pitchers Per MyKBO Website:

  • Lotte: Dan Straily (4-2 2.03 ERA)
  • Kiwoom: Han Hyun-hee (4-4 6.28 ERA)

Dan Straily has been easy to trust all season long with a 2.03 ERA on the season for the Giants. But Han Hyun-hee has been very interesting this season for the Kiwoom Heroes.

After losing the first of three at home against the Giants, Hyun-hee will look to get Kiwoom back on track. It’ll be a tough task, however.

Hyun-hee is coming off a dominating performance against SK on the road, going 6.2 innings and allowing one run on four hits while striking out seven and walking one. Before that start, Hyun-hee allowed 19 runs in his previous two starts and 31 in his previous four games.

He’s been awful (pun intended). But that previous start was effective. Can he continue momentum or will he struggle? In 2019, he finished with an ERA of 3.41 and a WHIP of 1.21 in 61 games but he never started. Going into a starter role has really taken a toll on Hyun-hee. He’s always had an ERA around 4.50 or above as a starter in recent years before his bullpen time in 2019.

The Lotte Giants will pitch Dan Straily who is arguably the best pitcher in the KBO, if not the best. Straily is 4-2 with a 2.03 ERA and has a 2.25 ERA against Kiwoom this season in one game started.

Straily has won three straight starts after allowing just one run combined and striking out 18 while walking three in those three starts.

He’s had a WHIP below 1.00 all three of those games as well and looks to be in mid-season form.

Prediction

For this KBO pick, I’m seeing lines at -130 for a Dan Straily which is absurd. Straily has been unbelievable in his last three starts this season and continues to shine start after start. He’s going up against a pitcher who has been remarkably inconsistent and has been shelled for runs game after game.

I know the Giants have been bad on the road but being a small favorite with Straily on the mound is an interesting look when looking at the KBO odds.
