LG Twins vs. KT Wiz

Thursday, July 13, 2020 – 5:30am EST

Probable Pitchers Per MyKBO Website:

  • LG: Lim Chan-gyu (5-3 4.06 ERA)
  • KT: William Cuevas (5-2 4.28 ERA)

In the first game of the series, the LG Twins blew a 8-1 lead and lost on a walk-off homer by Mel Rojas Jr. It was another disaster for the LG Twins. Then the second game was rained out.

Anyway, the Twins continue to put up embarrassing performances, finding ways to lose that never seemed possible.

The LG Twins have been a solid bounce back team after losing the first game of a three game series. This could be an intriguing spot for the Twins. However, the Twins were set to pitch Lee Min-ho in the second game of the series. With that game rained out, the Twins will elect to go with Lim Chan-gyu instead.

Chan-gyu is 5-3 on the season with a 4.06 ERA. In 11 starts this season, he’s completed five as quality starts. Chan-gyu is 3-1 in his last five starts and has had a quality start in all three wins.

He faced KT earlier this season and allowed four runs on six hits in six innings of work but he struck out eight and walked just one. Except, on the road this season, Chan-gyu has allowed 17 runs in 36.3 innings pitched. On the road, he’s actually 3-2 and has allowed 6.67 hits per start with an average of 6 innings per start.

He’s coming off a solid performance against Hanwha, allowing just two hits in six innings. No runs, five strikeouts, and two walks.

KT will pitch William Cuevas, who has a 5-2 record with a 4.28 ERA on the season. Cuevas returned from injury on July 21 and is now 4-0 in his first five starts since returning. In those four wins, he’s allowed a combined four runs. In the no-decision against Kiwoom, he allowed five.

Cuevas is certainly getting comfortable after two solid performances against Hanwha and Samsung, allowing just one run each through 13 innings combined.

Cuevas faced LG earlier, before his injury, and went seven innings, allowing four runs on seven hits. All four of those runs came in the second inning but he then settled down and pitched fine.

This looks to be the best pitching match-up on the slate. Cuevas has looked extremely good since returning from an injury while Chan-gyu will give the Twins a chance to win this game. When he’s pitching well, he’s locating well.

You should expect a slow start for both sides in this one and the best sportsbooks agree.

Samsung Lions vs. NC Dinos

Sunday, July 5, 2020 – 5:30am EST

Probable Pitchers Per MyKBO Website:

  • Samsung: Won Tae-in (5-2 3.12 ERA)
  • NC: Drew Rucinski (9-1 2.05 ERA)

The NC Dinos walked off against the Samsung Lions in the 10th inning to win the first of three in the weekday series. Again, the second game of the series was rained out. Both pitchers who were scheduled to go on Wednesday will now go on Thursday instead. The Dinos will look to win the series on Wednesday with Drew Rucinski on the mound.

Rucinski is 9-1 with a 2.05 ERA on the season and has been absolutely fantastic as of late. He’s won five straight starts and has allowed just five runs in those five games (33 IP). Rucinski has pitched four of those five games on the road but he’ll be back home for this one.

Rucinski has been dominant in his last four starts at home. He’s allowed just three runs in four starts (26 IP). He’s striking out 7.9 batters per nine innings and walking 2.6 batters per nine innings. His FIP is currently 3.76 while his WAR is 2.12.

Rucinski is also 1-0 with a 1.38 ERA after two games started against Samsung.

He’ll go up against another young phenom in Won Tae-in of the Samsung Lions. Tae-in is 5-2 with a 3.12 ERA on the season. He just missed out on a quality start in his previous start as he allowed three earned runs in 5.2 innings of work on the road against Kiwoom.

In his last three starts, Tae-in has allowed six runs in 18.1 innings of work. While that doesn’t sound too good, that would be about three runs per nine innings (two games.)

Tae-in faced the Dinos once this season as a reliever back on May 5 where he went one inning and allowed one hit but no runs.

With the way Rucinski is pitching as of late, it’s hard to see the Lions having much success on the road early in this game.

But Won Tae-in has also been very special this season and has done a terrific job navigating through games. I like the under in the first five in this one as well as one of my KBO picks.

Lotte Giants vs. SK Wyverns

Thursday, July 23, 2020 – 5:30am EST

Probable Pitchers Per MyKBO Website:

  • Lotte: Jang Won-sam (0-2 8.38 ERA)
  • SK: Lee Geon-wook (4-2 3.08 ERA)

The SK Wyverns walked-off happy after a Jamie Romak walk-off homer in the 9th inning on Tuesday but rain got in the way of Wednesday’s match-up. Both teams will send out the same pitcher for Thursday’s match-up and it favors one side more than the other.

The Wyverns have looked tremendous offensively and will look to get the series win early on Thursday. The Wyverns will send out Lee Geon-wook, who has been one of the more surprising pitchers this season. Geon-wook is 4-2 with a 3.08 ERA and an FIP of 4.38 which is respectable for this league.

Geon-wook has now won three of these last four starts and is coming off back-to-back wins against the Doosan Bears and NC Dinos. He also defeated LG during this stretch.

Geon-wook’s success could be attributed to his walk rate lowering in his last two starts. Geon-wook averages 4.2 walks per nine innings but walked just one batter in his last 13 innings against Doosan and NC.

Per Freddie Mills of DFS Coach Talk, Lee Geon-wook has a .53 ERA in three home starts this season and has an ERA of 2.73 in his last four games. He’s also holding righties to a .181 average this season and the Giants have a heavy right-handed lineup.

On the other hand, Jang Won-sam will take the mound for the Lotte Giants. He has an 8.38 ERA and a 6.47 FIP with a negative WAR of .01.

Won-sam has allowed at least four runs in every start this season. He’s also not a strikeout thrower but will limit walks. Won-sam is coming off a brutal start against LG where he allowed six earned runs in 4.1 innings of work, including two homers on eight hits.

Won-sam pitched for LG last season and had a 7.98 ERA and a WHIP of 1.57. His WHIP this season is currently 1.71.

The Giants are now 12-22 on the road and don’t have a favorable match-up going against Geon-wook. I had the guts to take the Wyverns as underdogs for this morning’s game. I’ll do the same for tomorrow’s game.
