We had a tie in the KBO with the LG Twins and NC Dinos tying after 12 innings. While the Kia Tigers and NC Dinos look for the series sweep, the other three games are rubber matches which should make for an exciting Sunday slate in the KBO. Here are the best bets for Sunday in the KBO.

Doosan Bears vs. Lotte Giants

Sunday, July 12, 2020 – 4:00am EST

Probable Pitchers Per MyKBO Website:

  • Doosan: Lee Young-ha  (3-4 5.79 ERA)
  • Lotte: Jong Won-sam (0-2 7.20 ERA)

The Lotte Giants escaped a Doosan Bears comeback and won the second game of the series. Sunday’s game will be the rubber match of the three-game series.

The Doosan Bears will pitch Lee Young-ha who is 3-4 with a 5.79 ERA on the season. Young-ha is coming off back-to-back victories over Kiwoom and LG where he allowed five runs and 15 hits in 12 innings pitched. In those two starts, he had a WHIP of 1.67 but was somehow able to limit the damage.

Young-ha faced Lotte twice earlier this season. In his most recent start against the Giants, he allowed three runs in 7.2 innings of work, while striking out two and walking three. He allowed eight hits in those 7.2 innings of work.

Young-ha has been hit or miss this season but has also been terrible on the road this season, allowing 26 runs in his last five starts on the road. Those 26 runs came in 25.1 innings of work.

Young-ha walks 4.7 batters per nine innings and only strikes out 5.9 batters per nine innings, however, he’s been able to limit the long ball. His ERA is 5.79 but his FIP is 4.90.

He’ll go up against Jang Won-sam who has just started pitching for the Giants this season. In three games started, he’s averaging 2.4 strikeouts per nine innings and walking 2.4 batters as well. He’s also currently allowing 1.8 homes per nine innings and had an ERA of 7.20 on the season. His FIP is a little better at 6.45 but still horrendous.

Last season, in eight games and three games started, he had a 7.98 ERA and an FIP of 6.08. He’s been consistently bad.

Won-sam allowed 15 runs in his first three starts this season. His home start against Doosan was abysmal as he allowed five runs on 10 hits in three innings of work while striking out no one.

The Bears have been on fire on the road this season, scoring runs in bunches. They’ll face a guy that they destroyed on May 12 on the road. He’s been just as bad since returning, although Won-sam has been able to go deeper in games recently.

I love Doosan in this bounce back spot. I might look at the team total when all is said and done. For now, we’ll still be on the money line.

NC Dinos vs. LG Twins

Sunday, July 12, 2020 – 4:00am EST

Probable Pitchers Per MyKBO Website:

  • NC: Koo Chang-mo  (8-0 1.48 ERA)
  • LG: Kimi Yun-sik (0-1 7.24 ERA)

The NC Dinos came back after an early deficit and ended the game in a tie against the Twins, 6-6 after 12. Now the Dinos will send out their ace to close the series with two wins.

Koo Chang-mo has arguably been the best pitcher in the KBO. He hasn’t faced the LG Twins just yet this season but he’s 8-0 with a 1.48 ERA on the season, which is quite ridiculous. Chang-mo has gone seven innings in his last two starts against SK and Lotte and has allowed three runs combined in those 14 innings along with 17 strikeouts and one walk.

Chang-mo is striking out 10.1 batters per nine innings and walking 1.6 batters per nine innings. He currently has a 2.40 FIP which is the best in the league at this time.

The LG Twins will pitch Kim Yun-sik who has pitched in nine games in relief and started just one game. Yun-sik has a loss in his only start of the season, where he allowed five runs (four earned) in five innings of work against Kiwoom. He allowed two homers, nine hits, and struck out just one while walking two.

Yun-sik averages 5.3 strikeouts per nine innings but is also allowing two home runs per nine innings. His FIP is currently 6.58. Yun-sik is a rookie of the Twins who was drafted with the third overall pick in the 2020 draft.

He’s had solid stretches in relief but was awful as a starter against Kiwoom.

Koo Chang-mo will pitch against a rookie pitcher who was brutal in his debut start on June 23 against Kiwoom. The Twins had their chance to win a game on Saturday but couldn’t get the job done.

I like the Dinos to explode offensively in this one while Chang-mo shuts it down as he always does. You can also look at the NC Dinos team total in this one and take the over.

KBO Pick:

NC Dinos -1.5(-140)

SK Wyverns vs. Hanwha Eagles

Sunday, July 12, 2020 – 4:00am EST

Probable Pitchers Per MyKBO Website:

  • SK: Moon Seung-won (2-5 3.18 ERA)
  • Hanwha: Jang Shi-hwan (1-4 5.07 ERA)

The SK Wyverns responded on Saturday, defeating the Hanwha Eagles to force a rubber game in the three-game series on Sunday.

Between two bad teams, the pitching match-up is actually solid. The Hanwha Eagles will pitch Jang Shi-hwan. While he is 1-4 with a 5.07 ERA, he’s been fabulous as of late.

He’s allowed just five runs in his last four starts. He’s only gone five innings in three of those five but again, he’s been solid towards the end of June and in July.

These solid outings were against LG, Samsung, Kia, and Lotte, with two on the road and two at home. Shi-hwan is a big strikeout thrower and is averaging 10.1 strikeouts per innings. What’s killing him this season is that he’s allowing 4.9 walks per nine innings.

Throughout his career, he’s consistently allowed around five walks per nine innings. Batters are hitting .404 with the ball in play and that should decrease eventually.

He’ll go up against Moon Seung-won who has struggled more compared to what we’re used to seeing out of him.

Seung-won has lost his last two starts where he has allowed just two earned runs in each start. Seung-won tends to go six innings or more in most of his starts and is also a solid strikeout thrower.

He’s averaging 8.6 strikeouts and 2.2 walks per nine innings this season and has a low FIP of 3.35.

In his last two road starts, Seung-won allowed just two earned runs in 13 innings pitched and struck out eight while walking five.

Both pitchers have done a tremendous job as of late. Jang Shi-hwan has been very impressive for Hanwha while Moon Seung-won has contributed consistent and solid performances each start this season.

There won’t be many runs in this game, especially in the first half of the game.
