The striker flew to Milan overnight where he was greeted by hundreds of eager supporters at the airport at around 2:00 AM and the deal was just announced. Lukaku had a medical in the city’s Humanitas Research Hospital ahead of official confirmation.
Federico Pastorello, Lukaku’s agent, uploaded a picture to Instagram of himself and Lukaku on a private jet with the caption: “Ready to take off… direction Milan” and the location was set at Brussels Airport.
The 26-year-old forward had been chased by Inter Milan all summer and manager Antonio Conte insisted on signing him.
Juventus was trying to sign Lukaku and he was keen on joining them after two seasons at Manchester United and the teams even agreed in principle on a swap deal involving him and Paulo Dybala but the Argentine forward did not approve the deal, ending Lukaku’s hopes of moving to Turin.
Lukaku did not play in the preseason because he was battling a minor injury. He scored 12 goals with one assist in 32 Premier League games last season and two goals with one assist in nine UEFA Champions League games.
