Now that the dust has settled from the madness that was Conor McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov, UFC Fight Night 138 is here. Let’s see where the betting value lies for two of the fights Saturday night.

UFC Fight Night 138

Saturday at Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada

Anthony Smith vs. Volkan Oezdemir

Free UFC Pick: Smith +160

Best Line Offered: 5Dimes

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3645253, "sportsbooksIds":[19,1096,238,139,999996], "LineTypeId":2, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

The main event finds Volkan Oezdemir looking to get back into the title picture against the rampaging Anthony Smith.

Oezdemir and Smith have a penchant for putting an end to their opponents rather quickly. Oezdemir demolished Jimi Manuwa and Misha Cirkunov in less than a minute before running into the light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and being stopped in the second round. Smith recently made his light heavyweight debut and won both of his fights in the 205-pound division. He ran over Rashad Evans in 53 seconds and then followed that performance with a 90-second wipeout of Shogun Rua.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "<iframe width=\"667\" height=\"375\" src=\"https://www.youtube.com/embed/ErEXfx7NvT8\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen></iframe>"}[/]

Because it can be argued that Oezdemir has faced stronger competition, he opened as a -172 favorite. That line has continued to move with it reaching as high as -200. Meanwhile, Smith finds himself as a +160 underdog after opening at +140.

Neither fighter is invincible and have suffered losses. Oezdemir’s only loss aside from Cormier was to Kelly Anundson at Bellator 155. Smith dealt with a fair share of setbacks early in his MMA career – including a four fight losing streak from 2009 to 2010 – but has bounced back nicely going 13-2 over his last 15 fights with 11 of those wins coming by knockout or submission.

In a fight like this you absolutely have to go with the underdog. Smith is creeping closer to a 2-1 underdog but can turn Oezdemir’s lights out at any given moment with his heavy hands. I wouldn’t necessarily go as far to say Oezdemir should even be the favorite. But, alas, he is and it’s mighty hard to pick a favorite in a fight where he could be vulnerable.

Take Smith and hold your breath.

Artem Lobov vs. Michael Johnson

Free UFC Pick: Lobov +425

Best Line Offered: 5Dimes

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3657837, "sportsbooksIds":[19,1096,238,139,999996], "LineTypeId":2, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

The card also features Michael Johnson jumping in on short notice -- after Zubaira Tukhugov was removed for his part in the UFC 229 brawl -- to face Conor McGregor training partner Artem Lobov.

Johnson is facing an opponent who is probably still employed with the UFC only because he trains with McGregor. Lobov is 2-4 in the UFC and simply hasn’t been all that impressive during his tenure. He has beaten only Teruto Ishihara and Chris Avila while dropping decisions to Andre Fili, Cub Swanson, Alex White and Ryan Hall.

There’s a reason he’s a +425 underdog.

As for Johnson – a -550 favorite – he squeezed by Andre Fili in his last fight with a split-decision victory. However, he suffered three straight losses prior to that and is 2-5 over his last seven fights. He’s a much better wrestler than Lobov with crisp striking. But one has to wonder if he’s on the decline and the opportunity to cash in big with a Lobov victory is ripe for the taking.

The line is just too good to pass up on putting a few units down on Lobov. Johnson should be the favorite but the line is far too wide and Johnson has struggled mightily over the past three years. Lobov hasn’t stopped a fighter since his days on "The Ultimate Fighter" but he could put his counter striking and solid takedown defense to work against Johnson. As for Johnson, he’d be best suited using is wrestling but he has abandoned that strategy in recent fights and left himself wide open to getting caught.

Take the risk. It could be worth your while.
