The CFL playoff picture has Calgary leading the charge in the West Division at 11-1-1, but the East Division title race remains too close to call with Ottawa holding a game and a half lead over Hamilton at 6-5-1. Given the matchups on the slate, this CFL week is one of a kind.

I was dead on target with last week’s two team CFL parlay with a play on the OVER 52.5 in Calgary’s thrilling 36-34 victory over Winnipeg followed by the right call in Saskatchewan’s stunning 20-18 upset of Hamilton as 4.5-point underdogs at home.

Turning to this week’s CFL games, the following are my top two plays for this week’s parlay with the help of betting lines from BetOnline which in my book is one of the top online sportsbooks for football north of the border.

Calgary Stampeders vs. Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Betting Preview
No other CFL team has been able to stop Calgary in its current 10-game straight-up and it has also been very profitable against the spread at 8-2. One of those victories came in late August against the Tiger-Cats in a 30-24 win as a four-point home favorite. Going back over the Stampeders’ last six wins, they have averaged 38.3 points a game and Bo Levi Mitchell is currently second in the CFL in passing yards (4,297) and first in touchdown throws (24).

The SU 6-7 (5-8 ATS) Tiger-Cats continue to struggle with consistency from one week to the next and they are coming off that bad 20-18 loss to Saskatchewan after closing as 5.5-point road favorites. They have now failed to cover in their last three games after closing as favorites in all three contests. Zach Collaros continues to put up some big numbers through the air including 310 yards in last week’s loss, but this is not always translating to points on the board with an average of 19.7 points in his last three starts.

Betting Trends
The Stampeders are a perfect 5-0 both SU and ATS in their last five road games and the total has gone OVER in their last four games following an SU win.

The Tiger-Cats have failed to cover in eight of their last 10 games against a team with an SU winning record and the total has stayed UNDER in nine of their last 13 games following an SU loss.

Head-to-head in this inter-division clash, Calgary has won the last 10 meetings SU including a 30-24 victory in late August as a four-point home favorite. The total has stayed UNDER in nine of the last 10 meetings.

Betting Prediction
Calgary failed to cover the spread last week against a tenacious Blue Bombers’ offense, but I think the Stampeders will take care of business this week with an SU win on the road that covers BetOnline’s current three-point spread.

Pointspread: Calgary -3 (-105)
Total Line: 55

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3035658, "sportsbooksIds":[1096,238,93,19,227], "LineTypeId":1, "PeriodTypeId":1 }[/]

Ottawa RedBlacks vs. British Columbia Lions

Betting Preview
The RedBlacks climbed back on top in the East Division race with a solid 29-12 victory against Toronto last week as 5.5-point favorites at home. They have now won two of their last three games both SU and ATS following a 1-4 SU run in which they failed to cover in all five games. Getting past BC on the road would be a major step in the right direction to winning the East again this year, but Ottawa is going to need another strong effort from quarterback Trevor Harris. He threw for 274 yards in last week’s win while completing 71.4 percent of his 35 attempts.

BC will look to bounce back from a tough 27-23 loss to Edmonton in Week 14 as a slight 1.5-point road underdog. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak both SU and ATS and it dropped the Lions to 8-4 SU (9-3 ATS) on the year. They will need a much better effort from their starting quarterback to get back on track. Jonathon Jennings is third in the CFL in passing yards (3,308) and fourth in passing touchdowns (15), but he was only able to complete 16-of-28 attempts against the Eskimos for 278 yards while getting picked off twice.

Betting Trends
The RedBlacks are 7-2 ATS in their last nine road games and the total has gone OVER or ended as a PUSH in their last four games following an SU win.

The Lions are 7-1 ATS in their last eight games following a SU loss and the total has gone OVER or ended as a PUSH in their last seven October games.

BC holds a slight 3-2 edge ATS in the last five meetings after beating Ottawa 29-23 on Aug. 25 as a 2.5-point road underdog. Ottawa holds the 3-2 edge ATS and the total have stayed UNDER or ended as a PUSH in all five games.

Betting Prediction
This should be a good game between two closely matched teams, but I have to give the edge to BC playing at home and make them my CFL pick. Look for Lions’ wide receiver Emmanuel Arceneaux to have another big day against Ottawa after catching seven balls for 164 yards and two scores in last week’s loss.

Pointspread: BC - 5.5 (-110)
Total Line: 53

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3035659, "sportsbooksIds":[1096,1275,93,19,92], "LineTypeId":1, "PeriodTypeId":1 }[/]
