Novak Djokovic (1) vs. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (9)
After playing only six games over the last two rounds, Novak Djokovic returned to action this Sunday with a terrific 6 – 2 6 – 1 6 – 4 triumph over Kyle Edmund. Even though some players might struggle after so many days without competing, these couple of days away from competition clearly helped Djokovic, who seems fully recovered from the minor issues that affected his performance in the first round against Jerzy Janowicz. Looking now to Novak’s numbers against Edmund, the highlight clearly goes to his return to serve, with the Serbian winning 55.06% of the points played on Kyle’s serve.

As we predicted in our ATP US Open Day 7 analysis, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga’s higher experience proved to be decisive against Jack Sock, with the French emerging victorious by 6 – 3 6 – 3 6 – 7 6 – 2. However, Tsonga was far from impressive on his serve, ending the match with only 53.33% first serve in, which is quite low for a player like him who has a 62.50% career average. Known for his offensive game style, Tsonga rushed into the net 41 times against Sock, winning the point in 73.17% of the times.

This will be the 22nd career meeting between these two players, with Djokovic leading on the h2h by 15 – 6.

These two players have featured some remarkable battles in the past yet, it was Djokovic who won 11 of their last 12 meetings. Even though Tsonga can create some problems to the Serbian with his powerful serve, Djokovic should be too solid for the French and for that reason, our suggestion is for you to add Djokovic’s spread to your betting picks.

Lucas Pouille (24) vs. Gael Monfils (10)
After an epic five sets victory over Rafael Nadal in the previous round, Lucas Pouille already secured a place inside the top 20 for the first time in his career. It has been an extraordinary year for Pouille, with the French reaching the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam event for the second time after his brilliant campaign in Wimbledon. However, it has also been a very demanding week for Pouille, with the French reaching this stage of the competition after playing 19 sets and spending almost 13 hours on court.

Working with Mikael Tillstrom clearly changed Gael Monfils’ mindset, with the French presenting a much more competitive attitude and his results in 2016 are a proof of that. After two consecutive losses at the US Open quarterfinals in 2010 and 2014, Monfils is looking for his first career appearance in this event’s semifinals. Gael reaches this stage of the competition without dropping a single set, with the French booking a place in the quarterfinals after a 6 – 3 6 – 2 6 – 3 triumph over Marcos Baghdatis.

These two players will face each other for the second time in their careers, with Monfils winning their previous encounter at the Australian Open 2015 in five sets.

Even though Gael needed five sets to defeat Pouille in their previous meeting, things should be quite different this time. As we mentioned before, Monfils is a very different player in 2016 and although Pouille’s recent improvements, it won’t be easy for him to handle Gael’s baseline consistency, especially after spending so much time on the court. With this in mind, our recommendation is for you to take advantage of Monfils’ betting odds by placing a bet on his spread.
