Triple Crown winner American Pharoah will make the final start of his career at the Breeders' Cup Classic. Should this horse be the betting odds favorite to win this race coming off a nine-week layoff?

We are less than three weeks away from the most anticipated Classic in Breeders' Cup history because it's the first time in the Breeders' Cup era that a US Triple Crown has been won. Can American Pharoah win at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky and complete horse racing's "Grand Slam"?

American Pharoah is a solid +250 betting odds favorite to win at BetOnline despite being upset by Keen Ice (+1400 to win the Breeders's Cup Classic) in the Travers at Saratoga on August 25. Bovada offers odds on whether American Pharoah will win the 2015 Breeders' Cup Classic or not. Yes is at +170 and No at -250. This is an interesting prop to add to your sports picks.

Beholder is second on the betting odds board at +400. Trained by Richard Mandella, she recently won the Pacific Classic. Beholder has two Breeders' Cup wins, the 2012 Juvenile Fillies and the 2013 Distaff but expecting her to beat the star-studded field at this event might be too much because what she faced in the Pacific Classic was nowhere near as competitive.

Tonalist won the Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park, the last Breeders' Cup Challenge race to enter the Classic and is now third on the list of favorites at +700. Toonalist won last year's Jockey Club Gold Cup and then finished fifth in last year's Breeders' Cup Classic.

Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey has prepared Honor Code (+850) at his home base at Belmont Park to keep this horse comfortable. Breeders’ Cup Classic will be Honor Code's first career 1 1/4 miles race. Honor Code prepared for the Classic in the one-mile Kelso Handicap on October 3 and finished third in that race, which was his first start in nearly two months (Honor Code had won the Whitney Stakes on August 8).

Looking at the perspective contenders at the Breeders’ Cup Classic and their chances against American Pharoah, his main challenger could be Frosted, who has great betting value at +1400. Frosted’s last start was a first place finish at the Pennsylvania Derby on September 19.
