The excitement of the Breeders’ Cup action is still fresh in the memory of horse bettors. Hence, let's use the momentum and talk about early horse betting odds and the 2016 Kentucky Derby.

Another highly impressive victory in last weekend’s Breeders’ Cup at Keeneland was in the Sentient Jet Juvenile, which features some of the top up and coming two-year old thoroughbreds looking to take their first major step to becoming a top contender to win next year’s Kentucky Derby. Nyquist took top honors in that race as a 9/2 second-favorite to keep his early unbeaten streak alive.

The following is a closer look at this champion in-the-making as well as the early betting odds for a few of my other top contenders to win the 2016 Kentucky Derby.

Nyquist +1200
It is very easy to see why this two-year old Kentucky bred colt is the early favorite to win next year’s Kentucky Derby at fabled Churchill Downs. His victory in last Saturday’s Juvenile was his fifth-straight win in five previous runs. Trained by Doug O’Neill, he first caught the attention of the horse betting world with a solid first-place run in Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes at Del Mar in early August. Prior to the Juvenile, Nyquist established himself as a worthy contender with back-to-back victories in the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity and the Grade 1 FrontRunner Stakes at Santa Anita Park.

Brody’s Cause +2500
This two-year old colt went off at 6/1 odds in the Juvenile as the forth-favorite on the board and ended-up in the money as the show horse. Trained by Dale Romans, this Kentucky bred thoroughbred has already enjoyed quite a bit of success in his early racing career with a victory in a Maiden Special Weight race at Churchill followed by an impressive victory in this year’s Grade 1 Breeders Futurity at Keeneland on Oct. 3.

Conquest Big E +5000
I was very high on this horse heading into last Saturday’s Juvenile as one of my top three contenders after Nyquist and Brody’s Cause, and while he faded to a disappointing eighth-place finish in that race, I am still going to keep him high on my betting picks list when it comes to betting Kentucky Derby futures. This two-year old Kentucky bred colt comes from good stock with Unbridled in his progeny, and with trainer Mark Casse at the helm, he is in good hands. Prior to his run in the Juvenile, Conquest Big E placed in the money in two previous Maiden Special Weight races at Churchill and Keeneland.

Cocked and Loaded +6000
Trained by Larry Rivelli and ridden by Irad Ortiz, this two-year old ran a respectable fifth in the Juvenile last Saturday after going off at 16/1 odds. This was the fifth race in his early career and just his second finish out of the money after winning his other three events. The biggest victory on his juvenile resume is a first-place run in the Grade 3 Iroquois Stakes at Churchill on Sept. 12. He also won the ungraded Tremont Stakes at Belmont in early June.

Air Force Blue +10000
Trained by Aiden O’Brian, this two-year old Kentucky bred colt did not run in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, but racing out of Great Britain, he has made quite an early name for himself with victories at racetracks such as Newmarket and Curragh. In five previous events as a juvenile, he has won four times and placed once. His biggest victory to date was in the Grade 1 Dewhurst Stakes on Oct. 10. He might be a longshot at best for the 2016 Kentucky Derby Trail, but still worthy of being on the list at this point in time given the attractive odds.
