There are familiar Hollywood faces and a president nominated for The Golden Raspberry Awards, celebrating the worst in movies.

Nothing like going from the best in movies with Oscar nominations to the absolute worst – The Razzies -- within a few hours of each other.

The best thing we can say about it is that we’re happy we didn’t drop any hard cash to see these films in theaters. Thank God for streaming services and OnDemand so you can watch the embarrassing stuff in the comfort and darkness of your own home.

The 39th annual Razzie Awards honors the worst films of 2018. MyBookie offered an early wager on these awards and other sportsbooks will likely follow suit.

The nominees cover puppet/muppets, The Mob and President Trump. Yeah, the list is so bad it's actually good.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

#razzies awards nominations and teaserhttps://t.co/qWWHtw4RX3
— Cosmic Book News (@cosmicbooknews) January 21, 2019
\n\n"}[/]

The nominees for Worst Picture are gangster biopic “Gotti,” the puppet crime drama “The Happytime Murders,” another incarnation of “Robin Hood,” the haunted firearm heiress drama “Winchester,” and “Holmes & Watson,” a comedy “whose own ads admit it doesn't have a clue.”

In a first in the Worst Actor category, we think, Johnny Depp was nominated for a voice-only performance in “Sherlock Gnomes.” Also nominated: Will Ferrell in “Holmes & Watson,” a frequent flier in this category, John Travolta in “Gotti,” Bruce Willis in “Death Wish” and Donald Trump as himself in “Death of a Nation” and “Fahrenheit 11/9.”

President Trump’s “self-perpetuating pettiness” was cited as a reason he was nominated.

The Worst Actress category boasts an Oscar nominee, thankfully for not the same movie. The nominees are: Jennifer Garner (“Peppermint”), Amber Heard (“London Fields”), Oscar nominee for “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” Melissa McCarthy (“The Happytime Murders” and “Life of the Party”), Helen Mirren (“Winchester”) and Amanda Seyfried (“The Clapper”).

Hard to believe but there is another voice-only performance nominated in the Worst Supporting Actor category, Ludacris in “Show Dogs.” Cleaning up behind him are Jamie Foxx in “Robin Hood,” Joel McHale in “The Happytime Murders,” John C. Reilly in “Holmes & Watson” and Justice Smith in “Jurrassic World: Fallen Kingdom.”

For Best Supporting Actress, Kellyanne Conway and Melania Trump were nominated for their appearances in “Fahrenheit 11/9,” plus Marcia Gay Harden, “Fifty Shades Free;” Kelly Preson, “Gotti;” and Jaz Sinclair, ”Slender Man.”

As for the rest, enjoy -- or not:

Worst Screen Combo: Any two actors or puppets, especially in those creepy sex scenes – "The Happytime Murders;" Johnny Depp and his fast-fading film career! – "Sherlock Gnomes;" Will Ferrell and John C Reilly (trashing two of literature’s most beloved characters) – "Holmes & Watson;" Kelly Preston and John Travolta (getting Battlefield Earth type reviews!) – "Gotti;" Donald J Trump and his self-perpetuating pettiness – "Death of a Nation" and "Fahrenheit 11/9."

Worst Remake: “Death of a Nation” (remake of “Hillary’s America”), “Death Wish,” “Holmes & Watson,” “The Meg” (rip-off of Jaws), “Robin Hood.”

Worst director: Etan Cohen, “Holmes & Watson;” Kevin Connolly, “Gotti;” James Foley,”Fifty Shades Freed;” Brian Henson, “The Happytime Murders;” and the Spierig Brothers, “Winchester.”

Worst screenplay: “Death of a Nation,” “Fifty Shades Freed,” “Gotti,” “The Happytime Murders” and “Winchester.”

The Razzies will be awarded on Feb. 23, the night before the Oscars.
