As sports trickles back into our life like a faucet that needs to be fixed, we can get excited about a major sporting event. Oh, sure, we are fully aware not everyone is tingling for horse racing, but the Belmont Stakes, the first race of this year’s Triple Crown, goes on Saturday, which is a major event.

Before then, we’ll check out the action at Gulfstream and Santa Anita on Friday afternoon. And yes, we could not help ourselves, we took a peek at Belmont Park for Friday and saw they had a stakes race and we added that one as a surprise!

Our free horse racing picks have made money for all readers at SportsBookReview.com and we will try and continue that. If you are betting the ponies on Friday and are at work, download the Fox Sports and NBC Sports apps and watch your races on the phone today. Your welcome, enjoy.

Gulfstream Race: 6

Post Time: 2:37 EDT
Surface: Turf Distance: 1 Mile

Morning Line Favorite at 5Dimes: #1 My Point Exactly and #6 Krammy Boy

Backstretch News: All three races from Gulfstream we are talking about are on the turf and with the 60 percent of showers, any of them could be moved to the main track, especially the latter two with later afternoon rain. All picks are based on running on the expected surface. Sublime Appeal is the speed in this race (82-79-85) and is 3-0-2 (WPS) in nine attempts at this distance.

The second choice is Ambassador Jim, who’s shown better speed of late (80-82) and has a good jockey in E. Jaramillo. We will close this ticket with Til the End, who can scot (78-82-82)and is being worked by this track’s top trainer S. Joseph Jr. Yes, we passed on the favorites.

Horse Racing Picks: 1) #9 Subline Appeal 2) #4 Ambassador Jim 3) #12 Til the End

Longshot Pick: #4 Ambassador Jim (10-1 odds)

Gulfstream Race: 8

Post Time: 3:41 EDT
Surface: Turf Distance: 5 Furlongs

Morning Line Favorite at 5Dimes: #7 Swirling Candy

Backstretch News: The money figures to be on Swirling Candy and Poseidon’s Passion, as both are three-time winners and are facing a less experienced field. Solid as a Rock and Tony’s Rose will also show up on many tickets and numerous exotic wagers. But we are going to think outside the proverbial box (or out of minds) and supporting Fly On Angel. We prefer the consistency of FOA for this field, with Beyer Speed Figures of 64-64-69. We like this group for an exacta box.

Horse Racing Picks: 1) #8 Fly On Angel 2) #7 Swirling Candy 3) #9 Poseidon’s Passion

Longshot Pick: #3 Mane Attraction (20-1)

Gulfstream Race: 9

Post Time: 4:13 EDT
Surface: Turf Distance: 5 Furlongs

Morning Line Favorite at 5Dimes: #2 Good Bye Greg

Backstretch News: Good Bye Greg might be the right name if he breaks cleanly and has the lead at the first turn, with his horse racing odds at 2/1. At about this sprint distance, GBG is 2-2-1 (WPS) in six shots. Honolulu Express delivers reliable efforts (78-75-77) and is 4-1-1 in nine trips. For third place, it’s a decision between #10 Kyle and #13 Go Go Gone. While #13 might be the better horse, coming from that far a post position in just five furlongs is hard and if the grass is even a little damp but still useful, his trainer might just scratch him.

Horse Racing Picks: 1) #4 Barrel of Destiny 2) #4 Honolulu Express 3) #10 Kyle

Longshot Pick: #4 Honolulu Express (10-1)

Santa Anita Race: 3

Post Time: 4:59 EDT
Surface: Turf Distance: 1 Mile

Morning Line Favorite at 5Dimes: #9 Tiberius Mercurius

Backstretch News: When it comes to ponies, anything is seemingly possible. Nevertheless, this appears to be a three-horse sojourn and we are sticking with them. That gives Much More Halo, who is trained by B. Baffert and will have Hall of Fame jockey M. Smith, a legitimate shot to win. Smith’s blazing hot at 5-2-5 (WPS) in 15 rides.

When watching TVG last weekend, heard announcers say when Baffert has two horses in a race, take the longer odds (they didn’t explain why), which has us siding with War Path to win. That is partly why for the choice, having top jockey F. Prat is the other. For second, it’s Tiberius Mercurius, who has the finest Beyer’s (79-79-84) in this miler and has had a couple of superb workouts.

Horse Racing Picks: 1) #6 War Path 2) #9 Tiberius Mercurius 3) #5 Much More Halo

Longshot Pick: #3 Fravel (12-1)

Santa Anita Race: 6

Post Time: 6:30 EDT
Surface: Dirt Distance: 6 Furlongs

Morning Line Favorite at 5Dimes: #2 Brace for Impact

Backstretch News: Though there are only six horses in this race, no easy call. Brace for Impact should be ready to break through after three straight seconds. Bluegrass Patriot’s last race makes him a factor coming into this one and his trainer M. Glatt has three wins and a show with the last seven horses he’s sent to the gate. With Due Cause probably has too low of odds at 4/1, but with Prat working the reins (14-8-7, WPS in 39 races), anything is possible.

Horse Racing Picks: 1) #2 Brace for Impact 2) #1 Bluegrass Patriot 3) #6 With Due Cause

Longshot Pick: No worthy longshot in this race.

Belmont Race: 9

Post Time: 5:36 EDT
Surface: Inner Turf Distance: 6 Furlongs

Morning Line Favorite at 5Dimes: #7 Chimney Rock

Backstretch News: This is the $80,000 Sir Cat Stakes and that sets the table for a HUGE Saturday at Belmont. Chimney Rock is the full package, with early speed and late speed when called on. If not CR than Turn Aside or Jack and Noah. JaN has beaten both Chimney Rock and TA and has the advantage of firmer turf on the inside. Turn Aside is 2-1-1 in five trips at this length on the grass and had an awesome workout 11 days ago.

Horse Racing Picks: 1) #7 Chimney Rock 2) #2 Jack and Noah 3) #5 Turn Aside

Longshot Pick: #1 Maxwell Esquire (10-1)

See you back here Saturday with the Belmont Stakes and with more racing, Good Luck!
