Something has to give as two teams with only one win in nine and 11 games respectively square up. William Hill's Lee Phelps is looking at the odds for Cuba vs. Guatemala for his free betting pick.

Two teams with similar international records come face-to-face at the Gold Cup with pointless and goalless Cuba facing one win in 11 Guatemala.

The opening game defeat to Trinidad and Tobago by three goals to one wasn’t a great start, but they did manage to get a point against Mexico in match day two to give themselves a chance of getting out of the group.

The national team, now led by Ivan Franco Sopegno, have won five of 11 previous matches against Leones del Caribe, including three wins and a draw in their last five head-to-heads.

There were early goals in that defeat to T and T going three goals down inside the first 25 minutes, before grabbing a consolation in the second half. Looking back over their last nine matches there have been 10 first half goals scored and conceded.

So far two defeats 6-0 and 2-0 means it’s hard to look at Cuba winning this one. They have won one match in nine and have been in turmoil during preparations for the Gold Cup.

You could argue the problems getting the head coach and key players to the States may have passed now and there could be improvement in the side.

I talked about first half goals in Guatemala games, well I’m going to add to that with the persuasive stat that Cuba have conceded 12 goals in their last five games, with 10 in the first half.

Soccer Picks
If I’m picking a winner here without looking at the soccer odds, then I would have to go with Guatemala, but I’m not sure I can pick them from a betting point of view at odds on. Cuba haven’t showed enough even at a massive looking 10.0 (9/1), so I’m going for goals.

You won’t be surprised to know I’m looking at over 1.5 first half goals for my soccer pick, given the stats I have outlined and the 3.25 (9/4) price that’s the bet for me.

Soccer Pick: Over 1.5 half goals 3.25 (9/4) at William Hill
