In his first fight on English soil in nearly four years, Tyson Fury returns to unify his WBC heavyweight crown with Dillian Whyte’s interim strap at London’s Wembley Stadium on Saturday. Fury claimed his title in the second of three memorable matchups with Deontay Wilder in February of 2020, and then put a bow on the dramatic trilogy with a late knockout to defend the title nearly 20 months later.

While Fury was busy settling his stateside rivalry with Wilder, Whyte tied up a loose end in 2021 and avenged an earlier loss against Alexander Povetkin, claiming an interim WBC strap with the knockout.

Though Whyte’s status as the interim champion should have immediately guaranteed him a shot at the reigning Fury, both British heavyweights had their sights set on different opponents ahead of Saturday’s booking. But with a shoulder injury knocking Whyte out of a date with Otto Wallin and Anthony Joshua putting the kibosh on a dance between Fury and Oleksandr Usyk, the WBC will finally see its two heavyweight titles unified in a tantalizing matchup of seasoned bangers.

To the surprise of no one, “The Gypsy King” is a heavy favorite, with Caesars Sportsbook listing him at -625. DraftKings has a Fury win at a slightly more accommodating -550, but the prop bets are where things get interesting.

Those banking on Fury to outpoint Whyte over 12 rounds can find a line of +240 over at FanDuel, while a Fury KO/TKO sits at -135 with the same sportsbook.

A Whyte upset, on the other hand, is listed at +450 with Caesars for those pining for some underdog theatrics. If you’re looking to bet on total rounds, Caesars is offering +135 on the fight going over 10.5 rounds, while DraftKings has over 9.5 at +105.

Fury may stand at 6-foot-9 and walk around at a little under 300 pounds, but he doesn’t always fight like a man of his measurables. Indeed, “The Gypsy King” is a heavyweight anomaly, often preferring to finesse his foes with excellent footwork and impeccable technique rather than indulging them with a slugfest.

He nearly paid for his risk-averse ways and flirted with the shadow realm a couple of times in his first fight with Wilder. The undefeated Fury rebounded from that controversial draw in his second meeting with his bitter rival, ditching the point-fighting and relying on his physicality. He big-brothered Wilder before putting him out of his misery in the seventh. Fury took a few more rounds to violently dispatch Wilder in their trilogy and now meets Whyte with a nearly spotless pro record of 31-0-1.

Mandatory challengers don’t always make for particularly stiff competition for reigning champions, but Whyte’s 30-fight resume is nothing to scoff at. The Jamaican-born, London-based banger has vanquished all but two of his professional foes - 19 by stoppage - with the pair of losses coming against solid dance partners in Joshua in Povetkin.

In his last outing, the 34-year-old evened the score with Povetkin. Between his underrated jab and the wallop he packs in his fists, Whyte remains a tough out for most heavyweights.

Saturday’s matchup will go one of two ways: either Fury opts to work from the outside and potshot the plodding Whyte for a lopsided win on points, or he replicates the game plan of his rematch with Wilder.

In other words, it isn’t a question of if, but how Fury will leave Wembley as the undisputed WBC heavyweight king.

Fury by KO/TKO (-135)

Whyte’s jab is deceptively quick, but he doesn’t use it nearly as much as he should, and he rarely needs much convincing to start chucking wild haymakers in pursuit of a finish. At 6-foot-4 Whyte is considerably shorter than Fury. Once Fury has spent the early rounds sticking Whyte and evading his best zingers, “The Gypsy King” should make it ugly. He'll give Whyte the Wilder/Steve Cunningham treatment, and clobber him against the ropes for a stoppage in one of the middle frames.
