Like the plot of a Hollywood movie, notorious criminal Redoine Faid used a hijacked helicopter to bust out of prison.

Redoine Faid, a longtime thief and now the most-wanted man in France, is on the run after a daring prison break that rivals Hollywood movies “Con Air” and “Shawshank Redemption” in its planning and audacity.

Of course, in those films the escapee was wrongly convicted. Not so much with Faid, who looks like Lex Luthor and fancies himself a gangster and con artist with a history of robbery and escape.

On Sunday, with help from armed accomplices using smoke bombs and a hijacked helicopter, the notorious criminal busted out of a prison outside Paris while serving a 25-year sentence for a failed robbery where a law enforcement officer was killed.

Armed men landed a helicopter in the prison’s courtyard, then broke into the prison’s visitors room where Faid was meeting with his brother. A video shot by an inmate shows the copter flying away with prisoners cheering him on.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

UPDATE: Video footage taken by an inmate at the prison, shows the daring escape by helicopter of top French criminal Redoine Faid, the helicopter instructor was taken hostage and forced to land at the jail where 3 gunman managed to get Faid to escape the prison via the helicopter ;/a>
— News_Executive (@News_Executive) July 1, 2018
\n\n"}[/]

Bovada is offering a “prison break special” on Faid’s fate:

How long will it take law enforcement to apprehend Faid? More than 40 days, -140; Under 40 days +150

Will Faid be recaptured alive? Yes, -200; No +150

Will Faid remain on he run for 2018? Yes, +425; No, -800

This isn’t Faid’s first great escape. In 2013, he used smuggled explosives to flee confinement and was on the run for six weeks before being apprehended.

With the kind of planning and bravado executed Sunday, we suspect he’ll evade police for quite a while. We also think he’ll be taken alive because we’re certain if/when captured he’ll want to boast about his exploits. In the past, that’s exactly what he’s done on TV in the past while promoting two autobiographies outlining his life of crime, including a run of bank and armored car robberies in the 1990s.

He also wrote of his inspiration – American films such as “Heat” and “Scarface,” both starring Oscar winner Al Pacino. “Braqueur” (Bank Robber), features a cover blurb from Michael Mann, the director of “Heat,” who Faid met at a French film festival.

The helicopter used in the most recent break out was found partially burned in a Paris suburb where it is believed he fled in a car. Determined French police are investigating the possibility that Faid is traveling to Israel disguised as an Orthodox Jew, as Faid discussed in one his books.

Nicole Belloubet, the French Justice Minister Nicole Belloubet described the prison break a “spectacular escape” performed by “an extremely well-prepared commando unit that may have used drones to survey the area beforehand.”

Dare we say, “Spectaculaire” coming soon to a movie theater near you.
