French Open Day 8: Value On Muguruza To Take Down Stephens

Sloane Stephens (7) vs. Garbine Muguruza (19)

Sunday, June 2, Paris

Free Tennis Pick: Garbine Muguruza ML

Recommended Sportsbook: Pinnacle

Former world No.1 Garbine Muguruza advanced to the second week of Roland Garros for the sixth consecutive year after a convincing 6-3, 6-3 win over Elina Svitolina in just one hour and 28 minutes. Known as one of the most powerful players on the WTA Tour, Muguruza proved too strong for Svitolina, winning 61.29% of the points played on the Ukrainian’s serve. Despite slow start to the European clay-court season, Garbine is already one of the main contenders to win her second French Open title at +700 with Intertops.

Muguruza will return to action this Sunday against last year’s finalist Sloane Stephens in the fourth round of Roland Garros. The American No.1 survived a tough challenge from Polona Hercog to win her third round match 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 in two hours and 32 minutes. Sloane struggled to find her rhythm and range from the baseline with just 23 winners to 43 unforced errors. Adding to this, the 2017 US Open champion didn’t save any of five break points she saved in the match and only won 60.61% of her first-serve points.

These two players will face each other for the third time in their careers. Muguruza won their first official meeting at the 2015 Wuhan Open while Stephens got her revenge last year in Miami.

Looking now at the odds for this contest, the sportsbooks are expecting a close encounter with Muguruza as the slight favorite at -133 with Pinnacle while BetOnline offers +114 for Sloane to win this match. Garbine has always been an outstanding investment at the French Open with an ROI of 69.9% on her previous 35 matches in Paris. On the other hand, Stephens was far from her best in the previous round with too many unforced errors. With this in mind, our suggestion is for you to take advantage of the value on Muguruza’s tennis betting odds by adding the Spaniard’s moneyline to your betting picks.
